LOWELL, Mass. – Freshman Alessandra Forgione (Peabody, Mass.) of the UMass Lowell women's outdoor track and field team and Jan Wouter van den Akker (Groningen, Netherlands) of the men's team each earned America East Weekly Awards, as announced by the conference on Tuesday afternoon. Forgione was named Female Field Athlete of the Week, while van den Akker earned Male Track Athlete of the Week honors.

Forgione could not have asked for a better outdoor debut for the River Hawks at the Raleigh Relays, breaking the school record on just her second career javelin throw. Competing against a strong field, she recorded a mark of 44.60m to finish ninth out of 35 competitors.

Also at the Raleigh Relays, van den Akker posted the conference's fastest 10,000m time this season, crossing the finish line in 28:57.87 to place 15th out of 95 runners.
