HOPKINTON, N.H. – A small group of UMass Lowell men's and women's cross country runners traveled up to Hopkinton Fairgrounds in Hopkinton, N.H. on Friday afternoon for the NEICAAA Cross Country Championships.Â
"We used today to give some of our runners a chance to bounce back from a few setbacks," said Head Coach Gary Gardner. "It worked really well and set them up for the next few weeks"
Three women competed in the women's 5k for the squad, as junior Brianna Phelan (Billerica, Mass.) led the way in 153rd place with a 20:57.0 mark in her first career 5k. Next was freshman Lilah Hall (Durham, Maine) in 156th place with a time of 21:01.3, before sophomore Grace Brackett (Wakefield, Mass.) finished in 175th with a time of 21:38.9 in her first 5k to round out the River Hawk women.
One man competed in the men's 8k, as sophomore Jackson Beauparlant claimed 73rd place out of 207 finishers with a time of 26:26.2.Â
The team will now look forward to NCAA Pre Nationals on Friday, October 16 in Indianapolis.Â
