BOSTON, Mass. – After closing out their trip in California in strong fashion, sophomore Nolan Geisler (Bayonne, N.J.) was named the America East Pitcher of the Week, while freshman Cal Chance (Wolcott, Conn.) was selected as the America East Rookie of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon.

Geisler dominated on the mound this past week, as the right-hander pitched 8.0 innings over three different games as a relief pitcher, garnering the first America East honors of his collegiate career. In his outings, the Bayonne native allowed just two hits and zero earned runs, while also tallying three strikeouts on the bump. The sophomore faced a total of 24 batters, as he walked only one of them. To cap off his week, Geisler earned two victories, first on Tuesday, March 10, at Sacramento State in a 7-2 outcome and the other on Saturday, March 14, at Pepperdine in a 5-4 decision.

Chance has excelled offensively for the River Hawks, leading to the freshman's first America East Weekly honors. During the five games that the Connecticut native competed in, he posted a .375 batting average (9-24) and a .458 slugging percentage, while also recording two doubles, four runs and three RBI. His biggest performance of the week occurred in the first game of the series against Pepperdine, as the catcher went 5-for-6 at the plate with a double, a run, and an RBI. His multi-hit game with five knocks tied a UMass Lowell Division I program record for hits in a single game.

So far in the season, Geisler has tossed in 13.2 innings in six appearances with one start, holding a 4.61 earned run average and a 1.10 WHIP. The sophomore's overall record sits at 2-1, while also registering nine strikeouts. Chance has recorded a .373 batting average up to this point in the season, while also owning a .880 on-base plus slugging percentage. The catcher has started in thirteen games, knocking a team-high 22 hits and five doubles, along with adding 12 runs scored, eight RBI and two stolen bases. On the field, Chance has posted a .978 fielding percentage with 44 putouts.

Along with the America East Pitcher of the Week award, Geisler has also been named River Hawk of the Week. The "River Hawk of the Week" is chosen in voting by the UMass Lowell Athletic Communications staff. It honors the top athlete, male or female, based on performance during the previous week of competition.
