3/16/2026 11:21:00 AM

LOWELL, Mass. – Looking to earn a bounce-back victory, the UMass Lowell men's lacrosse team (2-4) gets ready for a midweek non-conference match against the Brown Bears (3-3) on Tuesday, March 17. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.at Stevenson-Pincince Field.

LAST TIME OUT
Sophomore Alex Lafreniere (Chelmsford, Mass.) scored three goals, as the UMass Lowell men's lacrosse team (2-4, 0-1 AE) fell to the Binghamton Bearcats (2-5, 1-0 AE), 16-9, in Saturday's America East conference play opener. Lafreniere, who now has three hat tricks on the season, was one of eight River Hawks to record a point in the contest. Sophomore Danny Burke (Eden Prairie, Minn.) also tallied three points off two goals and an assist, while junior Nolan Marshall (Oakville, Ontario) and freshman Ryan Proctor (Uxbridge, Ontario) both contributed a goal and an assist. Rounding things out, juniors Mitch Lanthaler (Mars, Penn.) and Colby Frigon (Providence, R.I.) each added a goal, while redshirt sophomore James Donnelly (Ottawa, Ontario) and sophomore Ryan Cho (Acton, Mass.) added assists.

LEADING THE FLOCK
Through six games, Lafreniere leads the team with 14 goals and 18 points, while Burke sits second with 11 goals and five assists for 16 points. Donnelly, meanwhile, posts a squad-leading six assists. Behind them, Frigon totals 10 points, with three other River Hawks recording at least seven points. At the X, junior Justin Alexander (Franklin, Mass.) owns a .676 (94-139) win percentage, while collecting a team-high 56 ground balls. Defensively, junior Jackson Schlicker (Portland, Ore.) adds seven caused turnovers and seven ground balls, and in net junior Carter O'Brien (Concord, Mass.), junior Scott Kosakowski (Westport, Ct.), and sophomore AJ True (Manchester, N.H.) have all split time, with True leading the way with 27 saves in three starts.

RECORDING RECORDS
In the team's second game of the year against Mercyhurst, Donnelly put on a show, totaling five goals and three assists, both career-highs, to set a new DI single-game program record with eight points. He also made sure to come up clutch for the River Hawks, scoring twice in the final four minutes, including once with six seconds remaining, to send the game to overtime, setting up the thrilling, 14-13 double overtime finish.

OVERTIME MADNESS
The River Hawks put their resilience to the test early in the season, rallying from a three-goal deficit in the fourth quarter against Mercyhurst to send the battle to overtime. The defense stood strong in extra time, not allowing a single shot, to push the game to a second extra period, where Frigon went on to score the game-winner for UMass Lowell with 1:35 remaining. The win marked the first overtime victory for the River Hawks since taking down conference foe UMBC, 13-12, in overtime during the 2019 season.

SCOUTING BROWN
The Bears enter Tuesday's game with a 3-3 record, dropping the last two contests to #6 North Carolina and #11 Cornell. Brown's offense has five players with double-digit points, led by Marcus Werhteim, who totals ten goals and six assists, and Jeremy Hopsicker, who posts a team-best 16 goals. The squad's top playmaker, Ben Scandone, leads the way with nine assists alongside a goal for ten points. In net, Connor Foley has started all six games, making 77 saves while allowing 65 goals, good for a .542 save percentage and a 3-3 record.
