River Hawks Deliver Teamwide Performance on Final Day of River Hawk Invitational

BOSTON, Mass. – The UMass Lowell's men's indoor track and field team returned to action Saturday, hosting day two of the River Hawk Invite at the TRACK at new balance in Boston, Mass.

The field events began the invitational, as freshman Kevin Vigneault (Jamesville, N.Y.) made his mark in the weight throw open event, unleashing a throw of 14.51m, earning second place. Freshman Kenny Kalvinek (Sutton, Mass.) also threw in the event, claiming 12th after posting a 12.87m mark. One thrower for UMass Lowell competed in the weight throw invite in freshman Reznor Rokicki (Loveland, Oh.), placing 18th at a mark of 15.58m. The shot put invite came next, as Vigneault launched a toss of 15.92m to earn a fifth-place finish and Kalvinek finished behind in sixth place at a mark of 15.63m. Rokicki followed, placing 10th after a throw of 14.78m, and graduate student Ian Camerato (Mount Laurel, N.J.) claimed 13th at a mark of 14.30m. Senior Mukanya Kazadi (Woburn, Mass.) (25th, 13.49m) also competed in the event. 

In the long jump invite, junior Brandon Riley (Weymouth, Mass.) got vertical, jumping to a 6.80m mark for a fifth place. Freshman Rere Edokpolo (Manchester, N.H.) finished next in 15th at a mark of 6.33m, while senior Derek Munroe (Tewksbury, Mass.) took 23rd after leaping to a 6.04m mark. Junior Kuzey Kaya (Winchester, Mass.) performed well in the long jump open event, earning fourth place with a mark of 6.30m. Sophomore Jack Shepherd was next in 12th place, posting a 6.04m mark, and freshman John Kivlan finished in 24th at 5.82m, respectively. 

Sophomore Camren Allain (Carver, Mass.) led UMass Lowell in the high jump event, tying for ninth place after posting a 1.90m mark. Edokpolo was next on the board, finishing in 16th at 1.85m. Also competing in the event, Kivlan (34th, 1.80m) and Munroe (36th, 1.75m). Shepherd was the only jumper for the River Hawks in the triple jump event, recording a 13.49m mark to earn eighth place.

The 5,000m run was the first running event of the day, with junior Dean Allen (Chelmsford, Mass.) running hard, placing fifth after clocking in at 15:19.83. Staying attached, sophomore Nicolas Uzzo (East Bridgewater, Mass.) finished in 13th place at a time of 15:42.44 and graduate student Timothy Brigham (Holden, Mass.) took 19th at 15:50.63. 

In the 60m hurdles preliminary, Riley had an impressive heat, earning a seventh-place finish with a time of 8.30. Senior Tristan O'Riorden and junior Nidlaire Olivier (Lowell, Mass.) were close behind, with O'Riorden in 11th at 8.46 and Olivier in 12th at 8.55. Also competing in the preliminary were Munroe (23rd, 8.77) and Kivlan (51st, 9.66). The 60m dash preliminary followed, as two River Hawks earned top-10 finishes in junior Evan Imasogie (Lowell, Mass.) who finished in seventh place at 6.91 and junior Daniel Kennedy (Tolland, Conn.) took eighth place at 6.94, both qualifying for the final heat. Sophomore Michael Gyimah (Kumasi, Ghana) crossed next in 20th place at 7.04, and senior Brett Earle (Baldwinville, Mass.) finished in 40th at 7.20. Running in the event as well were Olivier (73rd, 7.33) and Kaya (83rd, 7.39). In the final heat, Imasogie finished in seventh place at 6.95 and Kennedy placed eighth at 6.96.

The River Hawks competed in the one-mile run next, with freshman JJ Rooney (Danvers, Mass.) claiming 40th place with a time of 4:26.78 and freshman Jackson Beauparlant was nearby, finishing in 48th place at 4:29.70. Senior Frederick Coleman (Methuen, Mass.) (57th, 4:33.23) and junior Joshua Rivers (Manchester, N.H.) (61st, 4:34.31) stayed attached throughout the event, respectively. In the 400m dash invite, junior Anthony Massari (Dumont, N.J.) kept great pace, punching in at 49.44 to take 10th place before sophomore Cyprian Ojatabu (Ojoto, Nigeria) finished in 22nd at 50.33, respectively. Freshman Dhaethmy Dorival was the lone runner for the River Hawks in the 400m dash open, taking 17th place after recording a time of 51.76. The River Hawks soared in the 500m event having two runners finish consecutively, with senior Alejandro Lynch (Somerville, Mass.) earning first place after punching in at 1:03.46, and senior Basit Iddriss (Milford, Conn.) right behind in second place at 1:04.00. Freshman Raymond Dafe (Lowell, Mass.) claimed 11th place with a time of 1:05.34, respectively. 

Two competitors ran in the 800m event for UMass Lowell, as freshman Abdul Jalloh (Lowell, Mass.) crossed first, finishing in 15th place after clocking in at 1:56.66, and sophomore Dylan Brenn claimed 33rd at 1:59.69. Freshman Joshua Toth (Milton, Mass.) led the River Hawks in the 1,000m run, earning fifth place after recording a time of 2:27.68, and sophomore Jamie Lano (Strafford, N.H.) was directly behind in sixth place at 2:27.93. Consecutively, sophomore Tyler Young (Marion, Mass.) finished in 10th at 2:29.74, and sophomore Tyler Rothrock (Allentown, Penn.) finished in 11th at 2:31.77. Rounding out the River Hawks, junior Declan Mulligan (Chestnut Hill, Mass.) clocked in at 2:42.34 for 26th place, respectively.

The 200m dash invite consisted of a few River Hawks, as Gyimah earned eighth place at a time of 21.76. Next, O'Riorden claimed 13th at 21.91, and sophomore Michael Fisher (Wallingford, Conn.) finished behind in 14th, punching in at 21.93, while Kennedy finished in 19th at 22.10, respectively. In the 200m dash open, two River Hawks competed in Imasogie and Earle, with Imasogie claiming 26th place at 22.62 and Earle finishing in 45th at 22.92. 

The River Hawks had some strong performances in the 3,000m run, with freshman Will Conklin (Danvers, Mass.) sticking towards the front, earning fifth place after punching in at 8:24.53, and sophomore Patrick Hall (Billerica, Mass.) followed in sixth place, recording a time of 8:24.57. All staying attached, freshman Chris Guerin (Shrewsbury, Mass.) finished in 12th at 8:33.98, sophomore Jack Courtney in 16th at 8:36.80, junior Keegan Tierney (East Greenwich, R.I.) in 17th at 8:37.65, and sophomore Dante Castellano (Nashua, N.H.) in 21st at 8:38.39. Junior Samuel Denis (Randolph, Mass.) (53rd, 9:09.54) and senior Daniel Burns (Billerica, Mass.) (54th, 9:09.84) rounded out the UMass Lowell runners, respectively. 

To complete the invitational, UMass Lowell had three small teams compete in the 4x400m relay, as team A, with O'Riorden, Massari, Lynch, and Fisher a part of the event, earned the top spot in first place at a time of 3:14.84. Team B, with Ojatabu, Iddriss, Dafe, and Lano, finished in sixth place at 3:19.37, and team C, with Munroe, Riley, graduate student Andrew Benassi (Reading, Mass.), and Kivlan, finished in 13th place at 3:26.01.

The indoor team returns for a midweek meet this Wednesday, February 11, in Durham, N.H., as New Hampshire hosts the River Hawks at the UNH Invite.
