BOSTON, Mass. – The UMass Lowell women's track and field team put forth their best effort on the final day of the 2026 America East Indoor Track and Field Championships at Boston University's Track & Tennis Center, finishing in eighth place with 46 points.
"I was just happy because we're really young, and more than half of the team are freshmen or sophomores, and they fought all weekend," said Head Coach Gary Gardner. "That's what we talked about this weekend. We are going to be a good team and a much better one, but we wanted to fight hard in indoor track and field, and honestly, I was just as proud of the women's team as I was the men's. I know we're headed in the right direction, and I know we have the right athletes. We'll piece it together here in the next year or two."
The fielding events started the day, as sophomore Avery Pitts (Willington, Conn.) leaped to a second-place finish with a 1.65m mark in the high jump event, earning eight points for the team. Graduate student Fleur Balogh De Galantha (Grafton, Mass.) followed for the River Hawks in 10th place, jumping for a 1.60m mark.
