Road Test at Maine Ends in 92–42 Setback for UMass Lowell

ORONO, Maine — The UMass Lowell women's basketball team (6-16, 0-9 AE) fell on the road at Maine (11-11, 6-3 AE), 92–42, Saturday afternoon at Memorial Gymnasium.

The River Hawks struck first as senior guard Jaini Edmonds (Worcester, Mass.) connected from three in the opening minutes, but Maine responded with a sustained run to take control of the opening quarter. UMass Lowell stayed aggressive on the glass early, creating second-chance opportunities, but the Black Bears built a 19–9 edge after one.

Maine extended its lead in the second quarter behind efficient shooting, while UMass Lowell continued to look for rhythm offensively. Junior guard Maddie Rice (Charlottesville, Va.) knocked down a three midway through the period and freshman Tyanna Medina (Lawrence, Mass.) added a pair of finishes inside, but the River Hawks went into the break trailing 46–20.

UMass Lowell opened the third quarter attacking the paint, with senior guard Sabrina Larsson (Uppsala, Sweden) converting a putback and Edmonds adding a basket in traffic. Rice later connected from deep and Medina continued to push the pace, but Maine maintained momentum through the middle frames to carry a 74–33 advantage into the fourth.

The River Hawks closed the game competing through the final period, with Edmonds scoring five points in the quarter and Medina adding a finish inside. UMass Lowell generated second-chance looks late, but Maine closed out the contest to secure the 92–42 result.

Edmonds led UMass Lowell with 13 points, while Medina finished with 10. Larsson and Rice combined for 13 points and 14 rebounds as the River Hawks continued to battle on the boards.

UMass Lowell returns to action next week at home against NJIT (Feb. 5) and UAlbany (Feb. 7).
