NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The UMass Lowell men's cross country team found plenty of success in North Dartmouth Saturday afternoon at the UMass Dartmouth Invite.
"The team ran really well today," said Head Coach
Gary Gardner. "The men were split between the two races. In the gold race, the guys were outstanding and ran tough and smart. In the navy race, they ran controlled and paced themselves. I am excited for the young kids on both teams."
The squad took the first 10 of the first 11 spots in the men's navy 8k, with senior
Sean Kennedy-Wonneberger (East Haddam, Conn.) leading the way in first with a 24:48.55 mark. He was followed consecutively by graduate student Jan Wouter Van Den Akker (Groningen, Netherlands) (24:48.59), sophomore
Devin Moreau (Tyngsboro, Mass.) (24:48.59), freshman
Will Simard (Francestown, N.H.) (25:36.41), junior
Keegan Tierney (East Greenwich, R.I.) (25:36.56), sophomore
Isaac Henderson (25:36.59), senior
Nathanael Fondakowski (Pelham, N.H.) (25:53.93) and senior
Hatim Boukhtam (Abington, Mass.) (25:57.14) to round out the top eight. Sophomore
Tyler Young (Marion, Mass.) thyen finished in 10th place with a 25:59.86 mark, before graduate student
Nate DeAngelo (Bristol, Conn.) claimed 11th with a time of 26:00.24.
The River Hawks collected two more runners in the top 20 with freshman
Chris Guerin (Shrewsbury, Mass.) in 15th with a time of 26:19.43 and graduate student
Graham Stedfast (Rowley, Mass.) in 16th place with a 26:22.97. Seven more runners ran in the navy race as well, for the River Hawks.
In the gold 8k, junior
Nicholas Marcotte (Hudson, N.H.) led the River Hawks with a seventh-place finish and a time of 24:32.54, followed by sophomore
Dante Castellano (Nashua, N.H.) in ninth with a 24:49.44 mark. Freshman William Conklin (Danvers, Mass.) was next, claiming 11th place with a time of 24:51.13, before sophomore
Jack Courtney finished in 30th with a time of 25:26.49.
The team will now look forward to the Paul Short Run on October 3 at Lehigh.
