LOWELL, Mass. – The UMass Lowell ice hockey team has been ranked tied for No. 7 in the 2025-26 Hockey East Preseason Poll, as announced by the league office on Tuesday morning.
The poll is voted on by the league's head coaches, and the River Hawks received 40 points in this year's poll after a 2024-25 season that saw a 16-16-4 overall record and 8-13-3 Hockey East record. They sit tied with Northeastern and above Merrimack (33 points), New Hampshire (31 points) and Vermont (23 points).
Boston University earned seven first-place votes and 105 points to take the top spot, while Providence is just behind them with 91 points and three first-place votes. UConn ranks third with 90 points, followed by Maine with 87 points and one first-place vote. Boston College and Massachusetts round out the top six with 85 and 64 points, respectively.
The River Hawks open the 2025-26 season in just over three weeks when they host Hockey East foe Merrimack for a one-game set on October 3 at the Tsongas Center.
