LOWELL, Mass. – UMass Lowell ice hockey Head Coach Norm Bazin has tabbed Dan Darrow as the team's newest assistant coach. This marks a return to Lowell for Darrow. During his tenure between 2011-15 as Director of Hockey Operations, the River Hawks captured multiple Hockey East titles, made three consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances, and reached the Frozen Four in 2013.

"Dan got his start here in 2011," said Bazin. "Since his departure in 2015, he has proven himself at every stop through his work ethic and attention to detail. He returns as our assistant coach. Dan brings elite-level coaching and analysis expertise, which should enhance player development, recruitment and game strategy. We look forward to having him on staff."

Between the UMass Lowell stops, Dan gained valuable experience. He worked almost a decade in the NHL while also spending a year with the US National Team Development Program.

Darrow most recently served as a Video Coach for the Boston Bruins, where he played a pivotal role in preparing players through film analysis, skill development, practice plans, and game prep. Prior to his time with the Bruins, he worked as an Assistant Coach with Team USA's U18 National Team Development Program (NTDP) and the U18 Men's World Championship team, where he helped guide the U.S. squad to a gold medal in 2023. Before his stint in Plymouth, he spent a solid seven years with the San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League between 2015-2022.  As an Assistant Coach, he contributed to the team's success in reaching a Stanely Cup Final in 2016 and the Western Conference Final in 2019.

"I am beyond grateful to get the opportunity to return to UMass Lowell as an Assistant Coach," said Darrow. "I'm excited to work with this talented group of players that the staff has assembled and I can't wait to get started."

Darrow graduated from Michigan State in 2011 with a bachelor's in communications, before earning his MBA from UMass Lowell in 2017.
