6/24/2025 2:43:00 PM

LOWELL, Mass. – The UMass Lowell ice hockey team had 27 players named to the 2024-25 Hockey East All-Academic Team, giving them the top spot in the Hockey East, as announced by the conference office on Wednesday morning.

"We're excited to lead Hockey East with 27 honorees this year," said Head Coach Norm Bazin. "The players are very proud to represent UMass Lowell and the results speak for themselves. They continue to excel in the classroom and the staff is proud to see them continue that level of excellence!"

To be eligible for the All-Academic Team, student-athletes must attain a 3.0 GPA or higher. Merrimack and Vermont each shared the second-most honorees in the Hockey East with 26, while New Hampshire was just behind with 21.

Graduate students Henry Welsch (Lakeville, Minn.) and Ben Meehan (Walpole, Mass.), as well as seniors Owen Cole (Dunnville, Ontario), Isac Jonsson (Ängelholm, Sweden) and Edvard Nordlund (Nacka, Sweden) led the way for the River Hawks, earning the Distinguished Scholar title, which is given to a student-athlete that has at least a 3.0 GPA in each semester of four varsity seasons.

Five different River Hawks joined the Hockey East All-Academic team for the third time of their career in juniors Mitchell Becker (Rogers, Minn.), Dillan Bentley (Peoria, Ill.), Jack Collins (Canton, N.Y.), TJ Schweighardt (Manahawkin, N.J.) and Scout Truman (Lethbridge, Alberta), all doing so in each of their first three seasons.

Two sophomores also collected their second All-Academic honor, making it two-for-two in their young careers. Those players include Sean Kilcullen (Kensington, Md.) and Jaiden Moriello (Saugus, Mass.). Joining them as two-time members of the All-Academic Team is senior Stefan Owens (Midlothian, Va.).

Rounding out the list of honorees are the 14 Hockey East All-Academic first-timers. That list includes graduate students Pierson Brandon (Irvington, N.Y.), Tate Brandon (Irvington, N.Y.), Ian Carpentier (Worcester, Mass.) and Jack Robilotti (New York, N.Y.), juniors Connor Eddy (Victoria, B.C.), Beni Halasz (Budapest, Hungary) and Roc Truman (Lethbridge, Alberta), sophomore Jak Vaarwerk (Clarence, N.Y.), as well as freshmen Daniel Buchbinder (Clarence Center, N.Y.), Mirko Buttazzoni (Langley, B.C.), Dylan Cook (Princeton, Minn.), Jacob MacDonald (Fort Worth, Texas), Lee Parks (Ottawa, Ontario) and Dominick Rivelli (Highland Park, Ill.).

A Hockey East record of 221 total student-athletes across the league were included on the Hockey East Men's All-Academic Team after posting a 3.0 GPA or higher during the 2024-25 season.
