River Hawks Collect Multiple Top Finishes, Conclude 2025 America East Outdoor Track and Field Championship in Eighth Place

DURHAM, N.H. – The UMass Lowell women's track and field team competed in day two of the 2025 America East Outdoor Track and Field Championship on Sunday at New Hampshire, finishing eighth overall as a team with 43 points.

UAlbany got the victory with 187 total points, with New Hampshire just behind them with 128. Bryant claimed the third-place spot with 127.50 points.
"The women are a less-experienced team, and it showed. We need another year or two to build back up to one of the better teams in the conference on the track, but we still had a host of exceptional performances on both sides."

Junior Nia Mainer-Smith (Taunton, Mass.) got the scoring started for the River Hawks in the 800m run, finishing third with a time of 2:13.01 to gain six points for the team. Sophomore Emily Burdick (Billerica, Mass.) also scored, finishing sixth with a personal-best time of 2:14.72 for three points.

In the 200m dash, sophomore Jayani Santos (Tewksbury, Mass.) shined, finishing in second place with a time of 24.23 to earn eight points for the team. This was followed by the 5,000m run, in which senior Sarah Ross (Agawam, Mass.) claimed fifth place with a time of 17:03.55 for four points. Graduate student Mary Yount (Northampton, Mass.) just missed out on points for the squad, finishing in 11th with a time of 17:30.72.

In the 4x400m relay, the team of junior Danielle Thompson (Groton, Mass.), Santos, Burdick and Mainer-Smith earned fourth place with a time of 3:51.21 to collect five points for the team in the final track event of the day.

In the field events, freshman Avery Pitts (Willington, Conn.) was the first scorer, claiming a tie for seventh place in the high jump, clearing 1.55m for two points. Graduate student Alexandria Grasso (North Reading, Mass.) followed that up with a scoring mark in the triple jump, leaping 11.56m for seventh place and two points.

The heptathlon athletes also competed in their final three events of the weekend, and Grasso earned the heptathlon victory, totaling 4,907 points for a UMass Lowell record. Junior Paige Murphy (Billerica, Mass.) was next in ninth place overall with 4,178 points, while senior Fleur Balogh De Galantha (Groton, Mass.) finished in 11th with 4,115 points.

The heptathlon long jump kicked it off, and Grasso earned the win, reaching 5.63m, before Balogh De Galantha claimed third with a 5.42m leap. Murphy finished in seventh with a 5.19m mark.

The javelin was next, and Grasso led the River Hawks with an eighth-place performance and 24.80m mark. Murphy was next in 11th with a toss of 21.70m and Balogh De Galantha claimed 14th with an 18.82m mark. The 800m run closed out the heptathlon, and Grasso picked up yet another win, earning a time of 2:25.04, while Murphy crossed in sixth place with a time of 2:31.17 and Balogh De Galantha finished in 14th with a 2:49.17 mark.
