River Hawks Prep for Series at UAlbany

LOWELL, Mass. – The UMass Lowell softball team (8-16, 4-2 AE) will head to UAlbany (13-15, 3-2 AE) for a set of three games, starting with a doubleheader on Friday, April 4 at 2 p.m. and a singled game on Saturday, April 5 with first pitch set for 12 p.m. at UAlbany Field.

Series History
UMass Lowell holds a 12-27 all-time record against UAlbany.

Last Time Out for the River Hawks
The River Hawks most recently played Maine, sweeping the Black Bears in three games. UMass Lowell first grabbed a 3-1 victory before earning a 6-3 win on March 28. The River Hawks wrapped up the series with a 6-1 win at home on March 29.

Freshman Avery Spinello-Branch (Lorton, Va.) totaled a 1.400 OPS with two doubles and three RBI throughout the series.

Sophomore Olivia DeCitise (Troy, N.Y.) was tabbed with two wins, while striking out 19 and only allowing six hits and one walk through 10.2 innings in the circle.

Leading UMass Lowell
Freshman Emily Baumes (Rexford, N.Y.) leads the team with a .316 batting average and a .402 on-base percentage through 76 at-bats. She also leads with 24 hits and 12 RBI. Sophomore Elizabeth Neeld (Huntingdon Valley, Pa.) paces the squad with a .412 slugging percentage.

DeCitise has the lowest ERA at 3.75 with 74 strikeouts so far this season. She holds a 4-5 record through 69.2 innings pitched.

Senior Emily Tow (North Kingston, R.I.) and Spinello-Branch each have nine stolen bases.

Patience at the Plate
Freshman Kate Hardy (Alexandria, Va.) leads the team in walks with 11.

Weekly Winners
Baumes was selected as America East Rookie of the Week twice and Spinello-Branch recorded one Rookie honor. DeCitise earned an America East Pitcher of the Week selection. Baumes and DeCitise each have picked up a River Hawk of the Week highlight.

Scouting the Great Danes
UAlbany recently faced Central Connecticut State in a doubleheader, grabbing a 9-0 win in five innings and then a 2-0 victory.

Caitlyn Frederick leads the Great Danes with a .338 batting average through 77 at-bats with 26 hits. Victoria Vilarchao has totaled 15 RBI this season. Vanessa Meyers guides UAlbany with a .463 on-base percentage and Taylor Quinn has recorded a .464 slugging percentage.

Kate Powers registers the lowest ERA at 2.97 through 66 innings in the circle with a 7-3 record. Hayley Wieczerzak has earned the most strikeouts with 64.
