AMHERST, Mass. – The UMass Lowell men's track and field team hit the road to compete in the Ken O'Brien Pre-Conference Meet Friday afternoon at Massachusetts.
The long jump was the only field event of the day for the River Hawks, and it was sophomore
Kuzey Kaya (Winchester, Mass.) that competed, finishing 11th with a 6.03m mark.
The 1,500m run started the day for the River Hawks, and it was freshman
Jamie Lano (Strafford, N.H.) that led the way in 22
nd place with a personal-best time of 3:59.91. Senior
Joseph Curran (Nashua, N.H.) finished just behind him in 23
rd place, earning a 4:00.12 mark. Sophomore
Keegan Tierney broke a personal record with a time of 4:08.21 in 46
th place, while junior
Daniel Burns (Billerica, Mass.) claimed 63
rd place with a 4:20.30 mark to round out the River Hawks' runners.
In the 400m dash, junior
Basit Iddriss (Milford, Conn.) led the way with a time of 50.25 for sixth place, while graduate student
Tanner Jellison (Wakefield, Mass.) was just behind him in seventh with a 50.35 mark. Freshman
Gabriel Sisk (West Hartford, Conn.) was not much further back with a time of 50.66 for 12
th place. Sophomore
Dennis Satchek was next, claiming 18
th with a personal-best 51.23 mark. Freshmen
Sean Kerin (Walpole, Mass.) and
Liam O'Keefe (Trumbull, Conn.) concluded the event consecutively in 20
th and 21
st place, respectively, with times of 52.12 and 52.24.
Next was the 100m dash, where two runners competed. Freshman
Michael Gyimah (Kumasi, Ghana) led with a ninth-place performance and personal-best time of 10.85, while junior
Jeandre Abel (Wilmington, Mass.) finished in 32
nd place with an 11.51 mark. Sophomore
Nidlaire Olivier (Lowell, Mass.) was the lone runner in the 110m hurdles, claiming eighth place with a time of 15.31.
Freshman
Dylan Brenn was out in front for the River Hawks in the 800m run, finishing in 24
th place with a time of 2:00.99, just before sophomore
Pedro Mayol (Lincoln, R.I.) claimed 26
th with a time of 2:01.34 and senior
Sean Riley (Wilmington, Mass.) finished in 28
th place with a 2:02.08 mark. Freshman
Tyler Rothrock (Allenstown, Pa.) rounded out the team's runners with a time of 2:05.06 for 35
th place. Sophomore
Willem Eisl (Princeton, Mass.) followed that up with the 400m hurdles, finishing in seventh place with a time of 58.45.
In the 200m, Gyimah led once again, finishing in 14
th with a time of 22.10, just ahead of freshman
Dmitrius Shearrion (Taunton, Mass.), who claimed 16
th place with a personal-best 22.28 mark. Junior
Brett Earle (Baldwinville, Mass.) was next in 24
th with a 22.53 mark, while O'Keefe and Abel rounded out the UMass Lowell runners in 30
th and 33
rd place, respectively, with times of 23.08 and 23.31.
Four River Hawks competed in the 3,000m steeplechase, with a victory from junior
Joshua Rivers (Manchester, N.H.) at a personal-best 9:31.73 mark. He was followed by sophomore
Timothy Walsh (Auburn, Mass.) in third with a time of 10:00.00. Senior TJ Glowik (Danvers, Mass.) was next in sixth place with a time of 10:11.59, as sophomore
Nicolas Uzzo (East Bridgewater, Mass.) claimed seventh with a personal-best time of 10:11.84.
The final event of the day was the 5,000m run, and freshman
Dante Castellano (Nashua, N.H.) was the lone River Hawk, finishing with a time of 15:05.64 for 6th place.
The River Hawks will now move on to day two of the Pre-Conference Meet on Sunday, April 27.
