River Hawks Shine in the Sun at Annual George Davis Invitational

LOWELL, Mass. – The UMass Lowell men's track and field had a big day on Saturday, competing at home in the annual George Davis Invitational.

"It was a solid weekend with great weather from the home meet and some good performances in Virginia as well," said Head Coach Gary Gardner

The two mile run kicked off the running events, as graduate student Henry Farrington (Essex Junction, Vt.) and junior Nathanael Fondakowski (Pelham, N.H.) led the way in the top two spots, running times of 9:33.44 and 9:38.93, respectively. Junior Daniel Burns (Billerica, Mass.) also competed, claiming eighth place with a time of 10:24.39.

In the 3,000m steeplechase, sophomore Timothy Walsh (Auburn, Mass.) and sophomore Nicolas Uzzo (East Bridgewater, Mass.) finished in seventh and eighth place, respectively, crossing the finish line with times of 10:11.86 and 10:16.52. Senior TJ Glowik (Danvers, Mass.) finished in 11th place with a time of 10:27.95.

The River Hawks shined in the 110m hurdles with senior Luke Stelmach (Sterling, Mass.) leading the way with a victory and finishing with a personal-best time of 15.25. Junior Tristan O'Riorden was just behind him in second place with a time of 15.39, while sophomore Brandon Riley (Weymouth, Mass.) claimed fourth with a 15.80 mark and junior Derek Munroe (Tewksbury, Mass.) finished sixth with a 16.15 mark.

Graduate student Paul Neilan won the 1,500m run with a time of 3:58.39, while freshman Jamie Lano (Strafford, N.H.) and junior Frederick Coleman (Methuen, Mass.) finished in fourth and fifth place respectively with times of 4:02.50 and 4:02.62. Lano's was good for a personal record. Freshman Patrick Hall (Billerica, Mass.) followed that up with a 4:08.47 mark for 10th place, before freshman Dante Castellano (Nashua, N.H.) claimed 12th with a time of 4:09.67. Senior Timothy Brigham (Holden, Mass.) (20th, 4:14.96) and junior Joshua Rivers (Manchester, N.H.) (21st, 4:15.23) also competed.

"Paul, Freddie and Jamie slowly returning to form after setbacks is a great sign," commented Gardner. 

The 100m dash was next, and freshman Michael Gyimah (Kumasi, Ghana) led the way in fourth with a time of 11.08, while sophomore Anthony Massari (Dumont, N.J.) finished in sixth place with a time of 11.20. Two other River Hawks earned top 13 finishes, with freshman Dmitrius Shearrion (Taunton, Mass.) (11.26) claiming 11th and sophomore Evan Imasogie (Lowell, Mass.) (11.26) claiming 13th. Massari went on to win the 400m run with a 49.08 mark.

Freshman Gabriel Sisk (West Hartford, Conn.) won the 800m run, earning a time of 1:56.05, before sophomore Dennis Satchek (Boston, Mass.) crossed in third place with a 1:56.83 mark.

Three River Hawks finished consecutively in fifth, sixth and seventh place in junior Basit Iddriss (Milford, Conn.) (1:57.31), freshman Tyler Rothrock (Allentown, Pa.) (PR, 1:57.43) and Tyler Young (Marion, Mass.) (1:57.44). Sophomore Pedro Mayol (Lincoln, R.I.) also finished in the top half of the competition, earning 14th out of 29 runners with a time of 1:59.52.

In the 400m hurdles, O'Riorden got the win, finishing in 53.30, while junior Alejandro Lynch (Somerville, Mass.) picked up a personal record time of 53.58 for second place. Sophomore Willem Eisl (Princeton, Mass.) also competed, finishing in fifth with a personal-best time of 58.07.  
Moving onto the 200m, it was freshman Iyanuoluwapo Omisore (Lagos, Nigeria) the led the squad with a fourth-place finish and 22.45 mark, before Shearrion claimed fifth with a time of 22.73. Junior Brett Earle (Baldwinville, Mass.) finished in 13th place with a time of 23.19 and freshman Liam O'Keefe (Trumbull, Conn.) rounded out the top half of the field with a 21st-place performance and 23.65 mark.

The 5,000m run saw freshman Devin Moreau (Tyngsboro, Mass.) claim second place with a time of 15:03.78, while freshman Jack Courtney finished in fourth with a 15:20.72 mark.
In the relays, the 4x100m team of sophomore Daniel Kennedy (Tolland, Conn.), Imasogie, graduate student Aras Kaya (Winchester, Mass.) and Gyimah finished first with a time of 41.39. In the 4x400m relay, Lynch, Sisk, freshman Dylan Brenn and freshman Michael Fisher (Wallingford, Conn.) also earned the victory, running to a time of 3:19.86.

In the field events, senior Ian Camerato (Mount Laurel, N.J.) kicked it off with a second-place performance in the discus, earning a personal-best mark of 48.53m. Freshman Joaquin Baldonado (West Haven, Conn.) also competed, finishing 11th with a personal-best 37.71m toss.

Graduate student James Kotowski (Stoneham, Mass.) once again lit it up in the javelin, earning a whopping 74.09m mark to win the event by more than 15 meters.

"It was great to see James hit a few big throws today," added Gardner. 

Four River Hawks competed in the pole vault, and Munroe led the way in second place with a 4.45m mark, while freshman Sawyer O'Riorden (Stow, Mass.) was just behind him in third, clearing 4.30m. Graduate student Daniel Cuddy (Hudson, Mass.) took fourth place at 4.15m, while Riley finished in eighth with a 3.85m mark.

Sophomore Shane Exilhomme (Orlando, Fla.) won the high jump, clearing 2.01m for his personal record. Stelmach was next in third place at 1.96m, while freshman Camren Allain (Carver, Mass.) earned the same mark. Allain also competed in the long jump, earning third place with a personal-best 6.81m mark. Sophomore Kuzey Kaya (Winchester, Mass.) also earned a personal record of 6.39m for ninth place while senior Ben Ayotte (Salisbury, Mass.) claimed 12th with a personal record of his own at 6.25m.

Graduate student Brandon Williams (Severn, Md.) won the triple jump, leaping to a 14.19m mark, while freshman Jack Shepherd finished in fourth with a 13.49m jump.
