LOWELL, Mass. – Senior Jade Catlin (Middletown, Md.) tallied a season-high six goals, as the UMass Lowell women's lacrosse (11-2, 5-0 AE) earned a hard-fought victory over the Binghamton Bearcats (4-9, 1-3 AE), 14-13, on Saturday afternoon to clinch at least a share of the America East Regular Season Title.

Tied at 11-11 with just over 12 minutes to play, the River Hawks locked in, as junior Grace Lydon (Rowley, Mass.) tallied back-to-back goals in just over a minute to give her squad their first two-goal lead of the day, 13-11. Binghamton countered, scoring a goal with 7:49 to cut the deficit to one score, but the hosts' defense refused to budge, not allowing a goal for nearly the remainder of the game. Meanwhile, in a woman-down situation, sophomore Jillian Goldie (Owen Sound, Ontario) found an opening, blitzing toward the net before firing a shot past the keeper to give UMass Lowell a two-score buffer. In the final minutes, clutch draw controls by junior Rachel Stax (Milton, Ga.) and Goldie helped keep the ball away from the Bearcats, and although they added one with nine seconds to play, the River Hawks defense held strong, sealing the 14-13 victory.

With the win, the River Hawks have set the record for most conference wins in program history while extending the best start in the team's history.

"I think every game in the contest this year has been a tight contest," said Head Coach Lisa Miller. "Binghamton played hard, and they were coached well. I just anticipate every game is going to be a one-goal game, and that's exactly what it was."

Catlin, who added four draw controls and a caused turnover, was one of four River Hawks to record a point on the day. Tied with her at six points, Goldie added five goals and an assist, while Lydon finished the day with three goals and an assist. Rounding out the point scorers, sophomore Chloe Bowers (Whitefish Bay, Wis.) tallied an assist. The primary draw taker, Stax tied her career-high with 10 draw controls on the afternoon, and in net sophomore Alexa Kuhn (Rocky Point, N.Y.) made 11 saves in the victory.

It didn't take long for the River Hawks to open the score, using a goal by Goldie just over a minute in to take the 1-0 lead. Although the Bearcats responded with their first goal at the 13:03 mark, UMass Lowell was quick to retake the lead, using a free position goal by Catlin with just under 12 minutes on the clock to own a one-goal advantage. Binghamton started to hit their stride on offense though, using a trio of goals to take their first lead of the day, 4-2, at 6:36. The hosts finished the quarter strong, as Catlin added her second and Lydon struck for the first time, evening the score at 4-4 after one.

In the second quarter, the Bearcats struck first with 12:41 on the clock, retaking the lead, 5-4. UMass Lowell was up to the challenge, locking down on defense to not allow another goal for over six minutes of play. Meanwhile, Catlin completed the hat trick on another free position shot, once again knotting up the score, this time at 5-5. Over five minutes later, with 6:15 remaining in the half, the Bearcats found an opening, converting a woman-up opportunity to jump back in front. Despite a goal from Goldie evening the score again, this time with under four minutes to go, the visitors added one more in the final minutes to take a 7-6 lead into halftime.

Coming out of the break, Binghamton tallied the first goal of the half, striking 37 seconds in to double its lead. The River Hawks refused to back down though, holding the opposition scoreless for over 11 minutes of action while adding two goals of their own thanks to Catlin, evening the score once again, this time at 8-8. A goal by the Bearcats with just under three minutes didn't slow down UMass Lowell, as Goldie struck twice in the final two minutes, putting her team in front for the first time since the first quarter, 10-9, heading into the final period.

In the fourth, Binghamton added a score only 45 seconds in, but the River Hawks responded with haste, as Catlin tallied her sixth of the day at 13:43 to retake the lead. Moments later, Binghamton tied the score for the ninth and final time, setting up the exciting finish at Cushing Field.

Prior to the game, UMass Lowell honored five seniors. Next up, the River Hawks hit the road to return to non-conference play when they visit the Dartmouth Big Green on Wednesday, April 16. The opening draw is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Scully-Fahey Field in Hanover, N.H.
