River Hawks Fall, 3-0, to Bucknell on Final Day of the Cathi Maynard Invitational

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Junior Giana LaCedra (Tyngsboro, Mass.) struck out three, as UMass Lowell (3-14) fell, 3-0, against Bucknell (7-11) at Cathi Maynard Park on Sunday morning during the final contest of the Cathi Maynard Invitational.

"Good pitching out of Giana today," said Head Coach Jen Starek. "We just couldn't get hits to fall."

Sophomore Alaina Santoli (Lovettsville, Va.) was 1-for-2 at the plate in the contest, with sophomore Elizabeth Neeld (Huntingdon Valley, Pa.) and freshman Grace Stepp (Richboro, Pa.) also picking up a hit each. LaCedra received the start in the circle, throwing the full seven.

Bucknell would get things started with a hit in the top of the first, but UMass Lowell extinguished the opportunity. Freshman Emily Baumes (Rexford, N.Y.) reached on an error in her first at-bat, but the game remained scoreless through one.

The Bison earned another hit in the second inning. Neeld answered with a single to center followed by a sac bunt from sophomore Oliva DeCitise (Troy, N.Y.) to move her over. Freshman Kate Hardy (Alexandria, Va.) also got on base, working the count to earn a walk, but the score remained 0-0.

Three-up-three-down in the top of the third for the Bison with LaCedra forcing two pop-ups and a line drive. In the home half of the inning, Santoli led off with a bunt for a hit, followed by a sac bunt from Baumes. In the fourth, the Bison would record a hit, while also holding the River Hawks on offense.

The fifth inning consisted of three quick outs for the Bison, as LaCedra was credited for a strikeout. Hardy would get on with a walk in the bottom of the inning, followed by a single to center from Stepp.

After another quick inning with just one hit from Bucknell in the sixth, the Bison's offense awakened in the seventh, totaling four this for three runs. The River Hawks had one more chance to score in the bottom of the inning when DeCitise produced a walk. The River Hawks battled until the final out, but Bucknell claimed the 3-0 victory.

The River Hawks will head home to host Massachusetts in the Kennedy Cup clash at River View Field on Wednesday, March 19 with first pitch set for 2 p.m.
