BOSTON, Mass. – A handful of athletes from the UMass Lowell men's and women's track and field team traveled to Boston University on Saturday morning to compete in the IC4A/ECAC Championships at the BU Track and Tennis Center.

The men's high jump kicked it off, with freshman Camren Allain (Carver, Mass.) leading the way with a fifth-place performance and personal-best 1.98m mark. Sophomore Shane Exilhomme (Orlando, Fla.) earned sixth place with the same mark.

"It is great to see our young high jumpers come along," said Head Coach Gary Gardner. "As a coach, you can see them maturing which is always fun."

Sophomore Úna Brice (Cork, Ireland) was the lone River Hawk in the women's pole vault, closing out Saturday's field events with a tie for ninth place and a 3.25m mark.

In the men's mile prelim, junior Hale Boyden (Barnet, Vt.) competed for the River Hawks, finishing in 24th place with a time of 4:25.99. Next was the 500m prelim, where graduate student Tanner Jellison (Wakefield, Mass.) claimed 13th place and just missed his personal best with a time of 1:05.55.

Graduate student Rachel Thomas (Perry Hall, Md.) shined in the 800m preliminary for the women, qualifying for tomorrow's final with a sixth-place finish and 2:13.23 mark, leading into the final race for UMass Lowell, which was the men's 1,000m preliminary.

"Rachel ran her race perfectly to get in the finals," commented Gardner.

Freshman Tyler Young (Marion, Mass.) was the lone runner for the squad, finishing in 25th with a time of 2:37.50.

The River Hawks will return for day three of the IC4A/ECAC Championships tomorrow, Sunday, March 9.
