BOSTON, Mass. – Graduate student Ali Grasso (North Reading, Mass.) broke the pentathlon school record as the lone competitor at the IC4A/ECAC Indoor Championships Friday afternoon at the Track and Tennis Center at Boston University.

"I am so happy to end my indoor track career with a school record!" said Grasso. "All my hard work is starting to pay off and I am really excited to see what's to come for the outdoor season. I would like to shout out my family, friends, coaches and trainers for believing in me and preparing me for this moment."

She racked up 3680 points with four event personal records with her performance to win the pentathlon by 120 points.

It all started in the 60m hurdles, where she finished second with a time of 8.77. She then went on to hit a personal-best mark in the remaining four events, kicking it off with a 1.51m (4'11.50") mark in the high jump. The shot put followed, as she earned the victory with a 10.48m (34'4.75") toss, before leaping to a second-place finish and 5.65m (18'6.50") mark in the long jump. The final event of the pentathlon was the 800m, and Grasso zoomed to a 2:22.94 mark to pick up the victory and snag the UMass Lowell pentathlon record.

"We came to this meet today with the sole purpose to get a school record," said Associate Head Coach Allyson Waruch. "After a misstep in her best event, she recovered with personal records in the other four. I could not be more proud of her effort and resiliency today."
