River Hawks Wrap Up Road Trip at No. 17 Fairfield

LOWELL, Mass. – Following a battle against Queens that went into overtime, the UMass Lowell men's lacrosse team (3-2) finishes off its three-game road trip against the #17 Fairfield Stags (6-0) on Saturday, March 8.
 
LAST TIME OUT
Senior Riley Lawhorn (Amherst, N.H.) finished with a team-high three goals, as the UMass Lowell men's lacrosse team (3-2) fell to the Queens University of Charlotte Royals (2-3), 12-11, in overtime on Sunday afternoon. Lawhorn, who added an assist for a four-point day, was one of eight River Hawks to record a point. Graduate student Garrett Murphy (Billerica, Mass.) tallied a goal and two assists, while sophomore Colby Frigon (Providence, R.I.) and freshman Alex Lafreniere (Chelmsford, Mass.) each added two-goal performances. Sophomores Johnny Soi (Kerhonkson, N.Y.) and James Donnelly (Ottawa, Ontario) each chipped in a goal and an assist, while freshman Danny Burke (Eden Prairie, Minn.) added a goal, and freshman Tommy Cassar (Kings Park, N.Y.) earned his first career assist.  
 
LEADING THE FLOCK
Burke leads the offense, totaling 11 goals and eight assists, ranking first on the team with 19 points. Behind him, Lawhorn paces the squad with 12 goals, alongside one assist for 13 points, while Consigli sits right behind him with seven goals and five assists. On defense, sophomore Owen Fitzgerald (Calverton, N.Y.) paces the River Hawks with five caused turnovers, while sophomore Hayden Almeida (North Kingstown, R.I.) and freshman Miles Kempski (West Chester, Pa.) are one behind him with four. Sophomore Justin Alexander (Franklin, Mass.), who leads the team with 65 faceoff wins on 101 attempts, also has a team-best 36 ground balls collected. In net, True tallies 66 saves for a .550 save percentage through his first five career games.
 
INSTANT IMPACT
The newest faces to Lowell have left their mark right away on the program. Seven newcomers have made at least one start this season, with True and Burke starting in every game. Through five games, the newest River Hawks have combined for 37 points off 23 goals and 14 assists, 14 caused turnovers, with True taking the spot as the starting goalkeeper.
 
AMERICA EAST HONORS
After tying his career high with 17 saves against Queens, True was named the America East Rookie of the Week, his second weekly award of the season after earning Goalkeeper of the Week earlier in the season. In Week Two, Burke was named the America East Rookie of the Week, while Almeida was tabbed the conference's Defensive Player of the Week. It was the second time this season the River Hawks earned two weekly awards, with Lawhorn earning Offensive Player of the Week and True snagging Goalkeeper of the Week honors in Week One.
 
SCOUTING FAIRFIELD
The Stags enter Saturday's match as the only team in the country with a 6-0 record and are one of two teams with a six-game win streak. Leading the offense in goals scored are both Jake Gilbert and Devin Lampron, who both have tallied 14 goals so far. Sophomore Keegan Lynch paces the squad with 19 points, including a team-best ten assists. On defense, Julian Radossich has played a key role for Fairfield, totaling 18 caused turnovers alongside 14 ground balls. In net, Owen Hirsch has started all six games, making 57 saves while allowing only 41 goals, good for a .582 save percentage.
 
MATCHUP HISTORY
Saturday will be the fifth time the two sides have faced off, with Fairfield owning a 4-0 record in those matches, including a win last year at Cushing Field.
