River Hawks Travel to Tennessee for Cathi Maynard Invitational

LOWELL, Mass. – The UMass Lowell softball team (2-10) heads to Clarksville, Tenn. for the Cathi Maynard Invitational on March 7-9 at Cathi Maynard Park. The River Hawks will take on Bucknell (5-8) on Friday, March 7 at 11:30 a.m., followed by a 7 p.m. start versus Austin Peay State (17-3). On Saturday, March 8, UMass Lowell will have a rematch with Austin Peay State at 4:30 p.m., followed by a contest against Appalachian State (7-12) set for 7 p.m. On Sunday, March 9, the River Hawks will wrap up the tournament as they will rencounter Bucknell at 11:30 a.m.

Series History
The River Hawks hold a 1-0 all-time record versus Bucknell, a 1-1 all-time record against Austin Peay State and have yet to face Appalachian State.

Last Time Out for the River Hawks
UMass Lowell most recently took part in the Spartan/Pirate Challenge going 2-3 on the weekend. The River Hawks grabbed their first win against Hampton on March 1, posting a 2-0 victory and then claiming a 6-5 win versus Norfolk State on March 2.

Freshman Avery Spinello-Branch (Lorton, Va.) led the team with five hits in the tournament. Senior Emily Tow (North Kingstown, R.I.) and sophomore Alaina Santoli (Lovettsville, Va.) helped UMass Lowell to the win versus Hampton, as they each picked up an RBI. Sophomore Elizabeth Neeld (Huntingdon Valley, Pa.) was a huge part of the River Hawks' win against Norfolk State, totaling three RBI, followed by Tow with two and Spinello-Branch with one.

Junior Giana LaCedra (Tyngsboro, Mass.) completed a three-hit game versus Hampton, grabbing the win and striking out five. Sophomore Olivia DeCitise (Troy, N.Y.) earned the victory against Norfolk, as she struck out eight and only allowed six hits.

Leading UMass Lowell
On the offensive end for the River Hawks, Spinello-Branch leads the team with a .342 batting average.

In the circle, DeCitise posts the lowest ERA for the River Hawks at 4.26 with one win and 31 strikeouts through 31.2 innings pitched.

Extra Extra
Spinello-Branch has registered five stolen bases and also boasts a .375 on-base percentage to guide UMass Lowell.

Patience at the Plate
Sophomore Isabel Quintanilla (Puyallup, Wash.) has been composed at the plate, as she has generated six walks so far.

America East Weekly Winners
Freshman Emily Baumes (Rexford, N.Y.) has earned two America East Rookie of the Week selections, as well as one River Hawk of the Week honor.

Scouting the Bison
Bucknell participated in the Hokie Invite, registering a 2-3 record in the tournament, posting two, 9-1 wins against Radford.

MaKenzie Hilling holds the best batting average so far, a .324 average through 13 at-bats. She has totaled 12 hits, with half of them being for extra-bases. Hilling and Brooke Popella have each picked up 10 RBI and five runs.

Madison Roukey has pitched the most innings with 38.0 and records the lowest ERA on the team at 4.05. She has struck out 22 batters and has been tabbed with two wins.

Scouting the Governors
Austin Peay State hosted the Governors Classic recently, going 5-for-5 on the weekend, grabbing wins against Northern Kentucky (8-0 & 3-2), Morehead State (7-1 & 9-1) and Florida Atlantic (5-3).

Kylie Campbell has seen 20 at-bats to earn a .419 batting average. She has recorded 26 hits with 14 being for extra-bases. Sam Leski has posted six home runs in 20 at-bats, while Sammie Shelander has totaled 20 RBI in 19 plate appearances.

Ashley Martin currently holds a 4-0 record in the circle, as she registers the lowest ERA on the staff at 1.66 with 33.2 innings pitched and 29 strikeouts.

Scouting the Mountaineers
Appalachian State most recently took part in the Liberty Softball Invitational, posting a 4-1 record in the tournament. The Mountaineers earned two wins versus Lehigh, 3-1 and 8-3, a win against Drexel, 8-0, and a 10-2 victory versus Georgetown.

Makayla McClain leads App State with a .339 batting average through 19 at-bats. She has earned 19 hits, seven being for extra-bases and guided the team with 20 runs scored. Grace Barrett has totaled the most RBI on the team with 14.

Sophie Moshos posts the lowest ERA in the circle at 3.43 and has the most innings pitched with 49.0 and also leads with 51 strikeouts.
