LOWELL, Mass. – The UMass Lowell men's track and field team split up on Saturday, competing in both the Raleigh Relays at North Carolina State and the UMass Lowell invitational at home in Lowell.
At the Raleigh Relays, junior
Tristan O'Riorden started it off in the 400m hurdles. He crossed in 55.05 to finish in 33
rd place overall. Senior
Graham Stedfast concluded the day for the River Hawks in a big way, finishing 12
th in the 800m out of 160 runners with a personal-best time of 1:49.52.
"It was a great way to finish the trip," said Head Coach
Gary Gardner. "Graham had a nice personal record that puts him on range of an NCAA mark."
Over in Lowell in tough conditions, the 3,000m steeplechase kicked off the running events, with sophomore
David McKinnon (Bloomsbury, N.J.) winning the race with a time of 9:49.92. Fresman
Patrick Hall (Billerica, Mass.) finished third with a time of 9:53.19, while sophomore
Nicolas Uzzo (East Bridgewater, Mass.) also competed, finishing in fifth place with a 10:15.80 mark.
Next was the 110m hurdles, where sophomore
Nidlaire Olivier (Lowel, Mass.) zoomed to a time of 15.95 for a second-place finish.
15 total River Hawks competed in the 1,500m run, and five finished in the top 10. Junior
Nathanael Fondakowski (Pelham, N.H.) led the way in third place with a 4:06.88 mark, followed by sophomore
Nicholas Marcotte (Hudson, N.H.) in fourth place (4:07.16) and freshman
Devin Moreau (Tyngsboro, Mass.) in fifth (4:07.84). Sophomore
Dennis Satchek (Boston, Mass.) (4:09.02) and graduate student
Henry Farrington (Essex Junction, Vt.) (4:09.15) finished back-to-back in eighth and ninth place to crack the top 10.
In the 100m dash, sophomore
Evan Imasogie (Lowell, Mass.) ran well, finishing in second with a 10.88 mark. Sophomore
Daniel Kennedy (Tolland, Conn.) was right behind him in third place, earning a time of 10.90. Three more River Hawks entered the top 10 with their performances, as sophomore
Anthony Massari (Dumont, N.J.) claimed fifth with a time of 11.03, just before freshman
Michael Gyimah (Kumasi Ghana) took sixth with a 11.06 mark and freshman
Iyanuoluwapo Omisore (Lagos, Nigeria) finished in eighth with a time of 11.15.
Two River Hawks competed in the 400m run, and it was graduate student
Tanner Jellison (Wakefield, Mass.) that led the way with a 13
th-place finish and 53.03 mark. Freshman
Cyprian Ojatabu (Ojoto, Nigeria) was just behind him with a 53.34 mark for 14
th place. Three runners followed that race up with the 800m run. Senior
Joseph Curran (Nashua, N.H) (1:59.77) and freshman
Jamie Lano (Strafford, N.H.) (2:02.96) finished consecutively in fifth and sixth place, before freshman
Dylan Brenn (2:04.77) claimed eighth place to round out the River Hawk runners.
Junior
Alejandro Lynch (Somerville, Mass.) won the 400m hurdles, zooming to a time of 54.29, while sophomore
Willem Eisl (Princeton, Mass.) finished in fourth with a 1:00.50 mark.
The 200m dash saw six River Hawk competitors, and it was freshman
Michael Fisher (Wallingford, Conn.) with the win, earning a time of 22.26 to edge out Omisore, who finished second with a time of 22.57. Massari claimed third with a 22.75 mark, before junior
Brett Earle (Baldwinville, Mass.) finished in sixth with a time of 23.21. Freshman
Liam O'Keefe (Trumbull, Conn.) crossed in eighth place with a time of 23.52, while junior
Jeandre Abel (Wilmington, Mass.) rounded out the River Hawks in the event with an 18
th-place finish and time of 24.70.
The final running event of the day was the 3,000m run, and the River Hawks owned the leaderboard, taking the top four spots. In order, the top four finishers were senior
Timothy Brigham (Holden, Mass.) (9:06.24), sophomore
Pedro Mayol (Lincoln, R.I.) (9:08.35), senior
Sean Riley (Wilmington, Mass.) (9:09.43) and junior
Daniel Burns (Billerica, Mass.) (9:09.89). Sophomore
Declan Mulligan (Chestnut Hill, Mass.) also competed, finishing eighth with a time of 9:42.60.
In the field events, freshman
Joaquin Baldonado (West Haven, Conn.) was the lone River Hawk in the hammer throw, finishing seventh with a 33.82m mark. Freshman
Sawyer O'Riorden (Stow, Mass.) represented the squad in the pole vault, finishing with a 3.80m mark for fourth place.
The high jump trio of freshman
Camren Allain (Carver, Mass.), sophomore
Shane Exilhomme (Orlando, Fla.) and sophomore
Brandon Riley (Weymouth, Mass.) finished consecutively in first to third place. Allain and Exilhomme each cleared 1.85m, while Riley concluded the day with a 1.80m mark.
Freshman
Miles Acchione (Mount Laurel, N.J.) finished third in the javelin as the lone River Hawk, throwing 46.84m.
Next up was the discus throw, where senior
Ian Camerato (Mount Laurel, N.J.) led the way and finished second with a toss of 40.01m, just ahead of junior
Derek Munroe (Tewksbury, Mass.) in third with a 37.32m mark. Baldonado (35.26m) and
Brandon Riley (28.25m) also competed, finishing sixth and 11
th, respectively. Camerato then went on to win the shot put, earning a personal-best 14.88m mark.
In the long jump, graduate student
Brandon Williams (Severn, Md.) got the victory, reaching 6.39m. Sophomore
Kuzey Kaya (Winchester, Mass.) finished in second with a jump of 6.29m, while senior
Ben Ayotte (Salisbury, Mass.) claimed fourth with a 6.09m mark. Freshman
Jack Shepherd was the lone River Hawk in the triple jump, finishing in second with a 13.66m jump.
"The team did extremely well for the conditions they were competing in," said Associate Head Coach
