BOSTON - UMass Lowell freshman guard Martin Somerville (Bowie, Md.) was tabbed the America East Rookie of the Week for the second straight time and ninth time this season, as announced by the conference on Monday morning.

Over two games, the freshman averaged 15 points, five rebounds, 2.5 assists, and two steals. At NJIT, in his third start of the season, the guard played 38 of 40 minutes, scoring 15 points alongside a career-high seven rebounds and two assists. Later in the week at UMBC, he caught fire from deep, going a perfect 4-4 from three in the first half on his way to a 15-point performance in the win over the Retrievers.

This season, Somerville ranks first among all freshmen in the America East and 13th overall with 13.8 points per game.

The River Hawks return to action on Thursday, February 6, when they take on the Binghamton Bearcats to wrap up the road trip. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:07 p.m. at the Events Center in Vestal, N.Y.
