LOWELL, Mass. – After earning a 13-12 victory in a thrilling match at Wagner to mark the best start in the program's Division I history, the UMass Lowell men's lacrosse team (3-1) once again hits the road, this time to take on Queens University of Charlotte (1-3) in a neutral site battle in Towson, Maryland, on Sunday, March 2.
LAST TIME OUT
Freshman Danny Burke (Eden Prairie, Minn.) recorded a game-high four
goals, as the UMass Lowell men's lacrosse team (3-1) battled for a 14-13 victory over the Wagner Seahawks (0-4) on Saturday afternoon. In net, freshman AJ True (Manchester, N.H.) finished with 11 saves.
LEADING THE FLOCK
Burke leads the offense, totaling ten goals and seven assists, both ranking first on the team. Behind him, Consigli has seven goals and five assists for 12 points, while Lawhorn ranks second with nine goals. On defense, sophomore Owen Fitzgerald (Calverton, N.Y.) paces the River Hawks with five caused turnovers while freshman Miles Kempski (West Chester, Pa.) sits right below him with four. Sophomore Justin Alexander (Franklin, Mass.), who leads the team with 52 faceoff wins on 80 attempts, also has a team-best 27 ground balls collected. In net, True tallies 50 saves for a .543 save percentage through four starts.
INSTANT IMPACT
The newest faces to Lowell have left their mark right away on the program, as seven newcomers have made at least one start this season, with True and Burke starting in every game. Through four games, the newest River Hawks have combined for 31 points off 20 goals and 11 assists, 12 caused turnovers, with True taking the spot as the starting goalkeeper.
AMERICA EAST HONORS
Following impressive performances in Week Two, Burke was named the America East Rookie of the Week, while sophomore Hayden Almeida (North Kingstown, R.I.) was tabbed the conference's Defensive Player of the Week. It was the second time this season the River Hawks earned two weekly awards, Lawhorn earning Offensive Player of the Week and True snagging Goalkeeper of the Week honors in Week One.
SCOUTING QUEENS
Queens enters Sunday's match with a 1-3 record, most recently earning their first win of the year over Mercyhurst, 9-8. The Royals' offense is led by senior attack Jack Royner, who totals 11 goals and two assists, including hat tricks in his last three games. On defense, senior Jacob Schreck paces his team with seven caused turnovers alongside 15 ground balls, including a career-high five caused turnovers against Holy Cross. In net, Dylan Axman and Nicky West have split time, with West earning the start against Mercyhurst, making 12 saves and allowing only eight goals in the victory.
