River Hawks Set for Road Clash with Wagner

LOWELL, Mass. – After earning a big, 15-7 win over Mercyhurst last week, the UMass Lowell men's lacrosse team (2-1) kicks off a three-game road trip starting this weekend when they head to New York to take on the Wagner Seahawks (0-3) on Saturday, February 22.

LAST TIME OUT
Freshman Danny Burke (Eden Prairie, Minn.) tallied a career-high six points, as the UMass Lowell men's lacrosse team (2-1) soared to a 15-7 victory over Mercyhurst on Friday afternoon. Burke, who scored three goals alongside three assists, was one of eight River Hawks to record at least a point. Sophomore Johnny Soi (Kerhonkson, N.Y.) scored a career-high four goals, while freshman Griffin Sumwalt (Aquebogue, N.Y.) earned the first two goals of his career and an assist. Sophomore Jayden Consigli (Franklin, Mass.) and freshman Alex Lafreniere (Chelmsford, Mass.) both chipped in two goals, graduate student Garrett Murphy (Billerica, Mass.) added a goal and an assist, sophomore Colby Frigon (Providence, R.I.) recorded two assists, and senior Riley Lawhorn (Amherst, N.H.) rounded the scoring out with a goal. In net, freshman AJ True (Manchester, N.H.) made seven saves in 60 minutes.

LEADING THE FLOCK
Burke leads the offense, totaling seven assists and 13 points, ranking first on the team. Right behind him, Lafreniere and Consigli both total eight points, while Lafreniere and Lawhorn lead the squad with seven goals each. On defense, sophomore Owen Fitzgerald (Calverton, N.Y.) paces the River Hawks with five caused turnovers while freshman Miles Kempski (West Chester, Pa.) sits right below him with four. Sophomore Justin Alexander (Franklin, Mass.), who leads the team with 37 faceoff wins on 57 attempts, also has a team-best 25 ground balls collected. In net, True tallies 39 saves for a .565 save percentage through three starts.

INSTANT IMPACT
The newest faces to Lowell have left their mark right away on the program, as six newcomers have made at least one start this season, with True, Burke, and sophomore Trevor Galgano (South Huntington, N.Y.) each starting in every game. Through three games, the newest River Hawks have combined for 25 points off 15 goals and 10 assists, 11 caused turnovers, with True taking the spot as the starting goalkeeper/

AMERICA EAST HONORS
Following impressive performances in Week Two, Burke was named the America East Rookie of the Week, while sophomore Hayden Almeida (North Kingstown, R.I.) was tabbed the conference's Defensive Player of the Week. It was the second time this season the River Hawks earned two weekly awards, Lawhorn earning Offensive Player of the Week and True snagging Goalkeeper of the Week honors in Week One.

SCOUTING WAGNER
Wagner enters Saturday's match 0-3, most recently falling to Mount St. Mary's, 15-9, last Saturday. Leading the Seahawks' offense is Jake Mitchell, who posts a team-best four goals and two assists for six points. Behind him, Dylan Haase totals four points on three goals and an assist, while Ethan Sieb tallies three goals this season. Senior midfielder Quin Hoke has been a big part of the squad's defense, owning four ground balls and five caused turnovers on the year. In net, sophomore Angus Snow has earned the start in all three games, posting 29 saves while allowing 45 goals, good for a .392 save percentage.

MATCHUP HISTORY
The River Hawks and Seahawks have faced off twice, with the all-time series tied at 1-1. The last time they faced off was in 2016, with the River Hawks taking home a 12-11 road victory.
