Rive Hawks Run Hard and Fast at David Hemery Valentine Invitational

BOSTON, Mass. – The UMass Lowell men's track and field team trekked into the city on Friday to compete in the David Hemery Valentine Invitational at the Track and Tennis Center at Boston University.

The 800m run kicked off the day, with three River Hawks competing in the 232-participant event. Freshman Gabriel Sisk (West Hartford, Conn.) was the first to cross the finish line for the squad, claiming 105th place with a personal-best time of 1:54.01. Senior Graham Stedfast (Rowley, Mass.) was just behind him in 114th place, earning a time of 1:54.40, while junior Basit Iddriss (Milford, Mass.) crossed in 137th place with a 1:55.13 mark.

Next up was the 1,000m run, and it was junior Hatim Boukhtam (Abington, Mass.) that led the way, zooming to a ninth place finish out of 46 runners with a time of 2:25.42. Senior Sean Riley (Wilmington, Mass.) and graduate student Jake Connolly (Weymouth, Mass.) finished in 31st and 33rd place, respectively, with times of 2:30.78 and 2:32.39, before sophomore Pedro Mayol (Lincoln, R.I.) crossed in 44th place with a 2:36.42 mark.

The final event for the River Hawks was the mile, and nine River Hawks competed. Freshman Isaac Henderson led the way, finishing 200th out of 354 runners with a personal-best 4:11.11 mark. Senior Will Benoit (Fairhaven, Mass.) was next, taking the 218th spot with a time of 4:12.17, before junior Jan Wouter Van Den Akker (Groningen, Netherlands) crossed the finish line in 228th with a time of 4:13.26. Graduate student Hunter Marion (Templeton, Mass.) was just behind in 230th, earning a personal-best 4:13.43 mark.

Junior Sean Kennedy-Wonneberger claimed 235th, picking up a time of 4:13.83, while senior Andrew Benassi (Reading, Mass.) finished in 253rd with a 4:15.52 mark. Sophomore Nicholas Marcotte (Hudson, N.H.) (296th, Personal Best 4:19.66), sophomore David McKinnon (Bloomsbury, N.J.) (315th, 4:21.24) and junior Frederick Coleman (Methuen, Mass.) (353rd, 4:37.02) rounded out the River Hawk runners.

The River Hawk women will now take on day two of the David Hemery Valentine Invitational tomorrow, Saturday, February 15, while the men will next compete at the America East Indoor Track and Field Championships next Saturday and Sunday, February 22 and 23.
