LOWELL, Mass. – Following a win in the season opener, the UMass Lowell men's lacrosse team (1-0) hits the road for the first time this year to take on Holy Cross (1-1) on Tuesday, February 11, before returning home to battle Mercyhurst (0-1) on Sunday, February 16.

Riley Lawhorn scored a career-high five goals, as the UMass Lowell men's lacrosse team earned a thrilling,14-9 victory over the Merrimack Warriors on Friday afternoon. Lawhorn was one of six River Hawks to find the back of the net in the match. Behind him, freshman

Jayden Consigli (Franklin, Mass.) added four points on two goals and two assists. Freshman
Alex Lafreniere (Chelmsford, Mass.) chipped in with the first two goals of his career, and sophomores
James Donnelly (Ottawa, Ontario) and
Johnny Soi (Kerhonkson, N.Y.) each added one. Making his first appearance with the start in net, freshman
AJ True (Manchester, N.H.) allowed only nine goals while making 15 saves, good for a .625 save percentage.
LEADING THE FLOCK
Lawhorn leads the offense, totaling five goals and five points, both ranking first on the team. Right behind him, Burke and Consigli each rank second with four points, with Burke earning a hat trick in his first appearance. On defense, sophomore
Owen Fitzgerald (Calverton, N.Y.) led the River Hawks with three caused turnovers alongside four ground balls, while freshmen
Jack Jimenez (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) and
Miles Kempski (West Chester, Pa.) each forced two turnovers. Sophomore
Justin Alexander (Franklin, Mass.), who leads the team with nine faceoff wins, also has a team-best five ground balls collected. In net, True tallies 15 saves for a .625 save percentage through one start.
AMERICA EAST HONORS
After impressive performances in the win against Merrimack in the season opener, senior
Lawhorn was tabbed the America East Offensive Player of the Week, while True named the America East Goalkeeper of the Week.
SCOUTING HOLY CROSS
Holy Cross enters Tuesday's match with a 1-1 record, most recently coming off a 13-12 win over Queens University of Charlotte. Through two games, the Crusaders' offense is led by sophomore Jude Lynch, who tallies five goals and an assist for six points, including a four-goal performance at Queens. Behind him, three members of the team total four points on the year. Defensively. Julian Jenkins leads his team with five caused turnovers alongside six ground balls, while in net, JR Long has made 23 saves for a .460 save percentage and a 1-1 record.
SCOUTING MERCYHURST
The Lakers come to Lowell following a 21-11 loss in their season opener to Bellarmine. In the loss, senior Jérémi Phoenix-Lefebvre totaled a team-high six points off a goal and five assists, while Ethan Landymore contributed with four goals in the match. On defense, eight members of the Mercyhurst squad chipped in with a caused turnover, with Benjamin Schellinger adding two ground balls. In net, Tyler Moritzen played just over 40 minutes, allowing 17 goals with nine saves, while Jaret Jawor finished out the game with four goals allowed and four saves.
MATCHUP HISTORY
The River Hawks and Crusaders have faced off five times, with the Crusaders owning a 5-0 record, most recently earning a 16-9 win in the 2024 season opener. Saturday's match will mark the first time UMass Lowell and Mercyhurst have squared off.
