River Hawks Explode Offensively in 122-73 Victory against Fisher

LOWELL, Mass. – Junior Jerrell Roberson II (Upper Marlboro, Md.) registered career bests of 21 points and 15 rebounds to help propel the UMass Lowell men's basketball team (4-7) to a 122-73 victory against Fisher (10-3) on Wednesday evening at Kennedy Family Athletic Complex.

"It was a good win," said Assistant Coach Matt Graves. "In these games, it's good to play the right way. We told our guys we need to make the right play consistently and I thought we did that. We need to continue to get better like we have throughout the year and get the next wins leading up to Christmas break."

The 122-point outburst marked the most points in a game for the program since 1995. Roberson II was joined in double-figures by senior Austin Green (Sicklerville, N.J.), who added 20 points and a personal-best 16 rebounds. Freshman Victor Okojie (Castlebar, Ireland) and junior Darrel Yepdo (Dracut, Mass.) each totaled 12 points, while junior Xavier Spencer (Calgary, Alberta) finished with 11. As a team, the River Hawks shot 55% from the field on the night.

Spencer opened the scoring in the contest with a triple, as the River Hawks scored seven of the first 10 points. The Falcons worked to make it a two-point game, but freshman JJ Massaquoi (Prince George's County, Md.) banked in a layup to spark an 11-2 River Hawk run that was capped off by five points from Green to take an 18-7 lead with 13:39 remaining in the first half.

A pair of threes helped Fisher make it a two-possession game before the home team responded with a 22-5 spurt, highlighted by two dunks and seven total points from Okojie and six points from Roberson II, stretching the difference to 46-20 at 4:59. The visitors were able to break up the run with three points, but the River Hawks then kept the pressure on down the stretch, outscoring the opposition, 14-2, with points from five different team members to take a 62-25 edge into the break.

Fisher attacked offensively to start the second with 10 of the first 12 points, however, a layup from Spencer and a trey from Yepdo got the River Hawks rolling. The teams traded points, as Green tallied the next five for UMass Lowell before dishing a pass to junior Angel Montas Jr. (La Romana, D.R.) to extend the buffer to 76-44 with 14:46 left to play.

Two minutes later, Montas Jr. ignited a 12-2 run, during which redshirt-freshman Kris Johnson (Prince George's County, Md.) contributed six points, including a massive slam dunk, helping to make it 89-50 at 10:51. Okojie and junior Jared Frey (Columbus, Ohio) added threes ahead of a put-back layup from Roberson II to get the River Hawks to the century mark, 100-58, with 7:26 on the clock. With five minutes to go, junior Khalil Farmer (Philadelphia, Pa.) kickstarted another quick 10-2 stretch en route to the 122-73 win.

Next up, the River Hawks are heading to Quinnipiac on Saturday, December 13 for a 2 p.m. tipoff.
