CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — Senior guard Jaini Edmonds (Worcester, Mass.) and freshman guard Tyanna Medina (Lawrence, Mass.) each scored more than 10 points in today's game, but the UMass Lowell women's basketball team (1-1) fell 82-53 to the Boston College Eagles (2-1) in their second game of the 2025-26 season on Sunday afternoon at the Conte Forum.
"Not the result we wanted, but we definitely showed flashes of our potential," said Head Coach Jon Plefka. "We will correct our miscues and be prepared for another road opportunity on Saturday."
Edmonds led the team in scoring with 11 points, adding one rebound and two assists, while Medina shot three-for-seven from the field, contributing 10 points and four rebounds. Senior guard Amina Kameric (Seattle, Wash.) and junior guard Paris Gilmore (Youngstown, Ohio) each dished out three assists to lead the team, while junior guard Maddie Rice (Charlottesville, Va.) and sophomore forward Klimentina Modeva (Ohrid, North Macedonia) each grabbed a team-high five rebounds.
As a team, the Eagles out-rebounded the River Hawks 39-28 and also led in assists, 19-10. UMass Lowell shot 36.5 percent from the field and 70.0 percent from the free-throw line.
The game started closely contested with the Eagles, as Edmonds hit back-to-back three-pointers in the opening minutes, keeping the score at 6-5. Boston College then went on a 10-point run toward the end of the first quarter. The River Hawks responded with a couple of successful shots, including a three-pointer by sophomore forward Adna Halilbasic (Recklinghausen, Germany) as time expired, but the Eagles led 20-14 after the first quarter.
Edmonds, still on fire to start the second quarter, stepped into her shot at the top of the key, hitting a two-pointer to cut the lead to four, 20-16. Although the Eagles stretched their lead to eight points around the halfway mark of the second, a pair of scoring opportunities from both Rice and Gilmore helped the River Hawks stay within seven points with two minutes remaining in the half. The half concluded with Boston College leading 41-27.
A layup by Rice and a three-pointer from senior guard Sabrina Larsson (Uppsala, Sweden) on the wing started the second half for UMass Lowell, bringing the score to 43-32. The Eagles capitalized on the final eight minutes of the third quarter, going on a 22-6 run to extend their lead to 65-38 with 10 minutes left to play. The River Hawks fought until the very end, scoring 15 points to the Eagles' 17 in the fourth quarter, but Boston College ultimately secured an 82-53 outcome on Sunday afternoon.
The River Hawks will travel to CCSU next Saturday, November 15. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Detrick Gymnasium in New Britain, Conn.
