River Hawks’ Late Rally Falls Just Short, 50–47 at BU

BOSTON, Mass. — UMass Lowell (2-3) battled to the final possession but fell 50–47 at Boston University (3-3) on Saturday afternoon inside Case Gym in a tightly contested non-conference matchup that came down to the final seconds.

"We put ourselves in a position to tie the game at the end but unfortunately, didn't capitalize," commented head coach Jon Plefka. "The slow start really put us behind and we just didn't have enough to overcome. The fight was there in the second half which was great to see. We now need that for all four quarters especially with a mid major opponent coming into our house on Tuesday."

Senior guard Sabrina Larsson (Uppsala, Sweden) led the River Hawks with a career-high 19 points and four three-pointers while adding seven rebounds. Junior guard Paris Gilmore (Youngstown, Ohio) finished with 12 points and three steals, capped by a late and-1 that brought the River Hawks within one possession in the closing seconds.

The opening half proved challenging offensively, as Lowell shot just 5-for-26 from the field and managed 13 total points through two quarters. BU built its largest lead of the night early in the third, but the River Hawks responded with improved defensive pressure and steadier execution to begin chipping away.

Momentum carried into the fourth quarter as Lowell outscored BU 18–12 over the final 10 minutes. Key stops and timely baskets trimmed the deficit to one possession, but an offensive foul on the final sequence halted the comeback attempt.

The River Hawks finished shooting 30% from the field and 19% from three, while holding BU to 36% shooting. The River Hawks recorded 35 rebounds, six steals, and four blocks.

UMass Lowell returns to home court on Tuesday for its first home game since the season opener, hosting Northeastern at 6 p.m. to close out a four-game road stretch.
