UMass Lowell Athletics Hosts Third Interview Skills Workshop for Student-Athletes

11/19/2025 4:00:00 PM

LOWELL, Mass. - For the third time, UMass Lowell Athletics hosted its semester-based Interview Skills Workshop, an initiative designed to help student-athletes strengthen their professional development skills.

Originally launched in the Fall of 2024, the program was created through a partnership between Assistant Director of Student-Athlete Success Ben Geier and Talent Acquisition Manager at Enterprise Mobility Shannon McIsaac. The workshop provides student-athletes with opportunities for open discussions about the interview process, one-on-one mock interviews and resume reviews.

This fall, the men's lacrosse team took part in the workshop, with 22 upperclassmen participating.

"The Lunch & Learn and Mock Interviews with the UMass Lowell men's lacrosse team were such a blast," said McIsaac. "It's amazing to see these student-athletes step up, ask great questions and really engage in building their professional skills. We're excited to keep supporting events like this and be able to connect with more student-athletes."

McIsaac enlisted the help of two colleagues from Enterprise Mobility — Area Rental Manager Benjamin Gagnon and Vehicle Acquisition Manager Marquis Harris Turner, who is also a UMass Lowell football alumnus — to serve as mock interviewers.

From the UMass Lowell Career & Co-op Center, Associate Director of Career Advising & Programming Beth Loell also served as a mock interviewer, while Career Advisor Janet Lee Taylor collaborated with Geier to assist student-athletes with resume reviews.

"Beth and Janet were great assets during this workshop, and hopefully we can continue to develop more workshops like this together," said Geier.

Taylor echoed the importance of this partnership in preparing the student-athletes for life after college.

"Thank you for inviting the Career Advisors to your wonderful event with the lacrosse team," Taylor expressed. As a resume reviewer, I was impressed with the students' academic backgrounds and work experiences. It was a great opportunity to help them refine the structure and written statements on their resumes. We look forward to partnering with your students again at more events."

The Interview Skills Workshop first launched during the 2024–2025 academic year, with baseball and women's soccer as the inaugural participating teams. The next installment of this workshop is scheduled to take place during the spring semester.
