River Hawks Travel to CCSU for Saturday Afternoon Matchup

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. — UMass Lowell continues its early-season road swing on Saturday, heading to Central Connecticut State for a 1 p.m. matchup at Detrick Gymnasium. 

A Win Would…

  • Give UMass Lowell a 4–3 lead in the all-time series against CCSU, breaking the current 3–3 tie.

  • Mark the River Hawks' first road victory of the Jon Plefka era.

  • Provide momentum in a stretch where four of the first five contests come away from home.

Last Time Out
UMass Lowell is coming off an 82–53 setback at Boston College on Sunday. Freshman guard Tyanna Medina provided a bright spot with her first double-figure outing, finishing with 10 points on 3-for-7 shooting and 3-for-4 at the line.

Scouting the Opponent
CCSU enters the weekend 0–3, with losses to Bryant, Providence, and Sacred Heart. The Blue Devils are shooting just 37.0 percent from the field through the first two games. Their leading scorer, Lucia Noin, is averaging 12.0 points per game on 37.0 percent shooting. Saturday marks their second matchup against an America East opponent.

Balanced Backcourt
The guard trio of Jaini Edmonds, Paris Gilmore, and Sabrina Larsson has combined for 24.5 points per game through the opening week. Gilmore leads the group at 10.0 points per game, while Edmonds adds 8.5 points and 2.5 assists.

Defensive Presence Inside
The frontcourt rotation of Klimentina Modeva, Maddie Rice, and Anabel Latorre Ciria has anchored Lowell's interior defense. The trio has accounted for nine of the team's 12 blocks so far.

On the Boards
UMass Lowell enters the weekend among the America East's early leaders on the glass, averaging 40.5 rebounds per game with a +5.5 margin. Larsson and Modeva pace the River Hawks at 6.0 rebounds per game each.

Extra Extra
Eight different River Hawks have recorded at least one field goal in each of the first two games, and seven players are averaging 4.0 points or more heading into Saturday.
