River Hawks Open Five-Game Road Swing at Columbia, Wake Forest

NEW YORK, N.Y. - The UMass Lowell men's basketball team (1-2) begins a five-game road stretch starting at Columbia on Thursday, November 13 at 7 p.m. The team then heads to Wake Forest for a 2 p.m. matchup on Sunday, November 16.

A WIN WOULD
A win against the Lions would give UMass Lowell the all-time series advantage, 2-1, while also improving the River Hawks to 2-2 on the season and 1-1 on the road. A win against Wake Forest would mark UMass Lowell's third win against an ACC opponent in program history, as well.

LAST TIME OUT
Junior Darrel Yepdo registered 17 points, as UMass Lowell dropped a hard-fought, 73-67 decision against New Haven on Monday evening at Kennedy Family Athletic Complex. Yepdo finished the night with three three-pointers made. Freshman JJ Massaquoi added to the offense with 16 points, including eight free throws. Junior Xavier Spencer rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points on the night, while classmate Shawn Simmons II led the way on the glass with eight rebounds. 

LEADING THE FLOCK
Through three games, JJ Massaquoi leads the way with 13.0 points per game. Austin Green is pacing the team on the boards with 6.7 rebounds per game. Darrel Yepdo totals a team-best eight assists and four steals,while Shawn Simmons II boasts four blocks.

GOOD FIRST IMPRESSIONS
Rookie JJ Massaquoi has stood out for the River Hawks in his first collegiate appearances, posting double-digit points in two of the three games so far., including leading the team in scoring against New Haven.

FREE IS FOR ME
The River Hawks have been strong from the foul line to open the new season, boasting an America East leading 74.7 free throw percentage as a team. Jared Frey is leading the way with a perfect, 12-for-12 effort from the charity stripe so far.

INTO THE UNKNOWN
The River Hawks have been known for their high-percentage, high-scoring offense under Duquette, leading the America East in field goal percentage for the last three years. However, UMass Lowell joins at least 12 other teams in the nation this year in returning 0% of its scoring from a season ago.

STARTING STRONG
The win against Rivier on Nov. 3 marked the sixth straight year that the River Hawks have opened the season with a victory. It also gave the team its 12th consecutive win in its home opener.

ROAD WARRIORS
The River Hawks will be challenged during the non-conference slate in 2025 with 10 road games on the docket, compared to just five home contests.
