River Hawks Announce Captains for 2026 Season

10/17/2025 11:39:00 AM

LOWELL, Mass. – UMass Lowell Men's Lacrosse Head Coach Drew Kelleher has announced his team's captains for the 2026 season. For the first time in their careers, juniors Josh Adey (Victoria, B.C.), Owen Fitzgerald (Calverton, N.Y.), Colby Frigon (Providence, R.I.), Jackson Schlicker (Portland, Ore.), and Johnny Soi (Kerhonkson, N.Y.) will take on leadership roles for the River Hawks.

"These five guys were chosen by their teammates and coaches to represent the 2025-2026 team," said Kelleher. "All of them have tremendous leadership qualities, and I know they will do a great job pushing this program forward throughout the year."

Adey, who has proven to be a key piece of the UMass Lowell defense, is coming off a very successful sophomore season in which he ranked second on the team in both ground balls (23) and caused turnovers (8). Beyond the defensive stats, he also recorded his first career point with an assist in the team's 10-8 victory over NJIT.

Although he was able to play in only three games during the 2025 campaign, Fitzgerald left his mark immediately as a freshman, starting in all 12 of the team's games, one of only two River Hawks to do so that season. During the 2024 season, the then-freshman also finished second on the team with 30 ground balls and seven caused turnovers, all while adding a goal and an assist, including a breakaway goal in the season opener against Holy Cross.

Looking to take another step forward in 2026, Frigon has been one of the most productive River Hawks on the offensive end each of the last two seasons. Totaling 25 goals and 11 assists for 36 points in his career, the Rhode Island native set personal bests in all three categories last season, scoring 13 goals while adding nine assists for 22 points, highlighted by a three-goal, one-assist performance in the conference victory over NJIT.

A vital member of the UMass Lowell men's lacrosse program, Schlicker stepped in and made an impact immediately as a freshman, starting in two of ten appearances. In his second year, he took on an even bigger role, making 13 appearances while finishing with an assist and ten ground balls. Although he posted a career-high three ground balls collected against then #17 Fairfield, he also added two in the win over NJIT and one more in the season opener victory against Merrimack.

Rounding out the leadership group, Soi has been one of the most impactful scorers for UMass Lowell over his two-year tenure, totaling a team-best 32 goals in that span. Consistently finding the back of the net, the junior scored in all but two of the team's games last season, including recording hat tricks against Wagner and Bryant and a career-high four goals in the 15-7 win over Mercyhurst.
