BOSTON – UMass Lowell freshman guard
Martin Somerville (Bowie, Md.) earned his eighth America East Rookie of the Week award, as announced by the conference on Monday morning.
As he has all year, Somerville proved to be a spark off the bench for the River Hawks, averaging 12.5 points and 4.5 assists during the two-game week. Against Maine, the rookie tallied seven points, three rebounds, three assists, and a steal, before following up with 18 points, six assists, and two steals to help his squad in the win over New Hampshire.
This season, Somerville ranks first among all freshmen in the America East and 14
th overall with 13.7 points per game.
The River Hawks return to action on Thursday, January 30 when they hit the road to battle the NJIT Highlanders. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the NJIT Wellness and Events Center.
