River Hawks Battle Tough Weather at UMass Dartmouth Invitational

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The UMass Lowell women's cross country team competed well, despite rainy conditions at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational Saturday morning. 

"Overall, it was a good day," said Head Coach Gary Gardner. "Mary-Kate ended with the fastest time of the day and we are really pleased with where they are at. Rachel, Miana and Sarah all look to be in a better spot than a year ago, which sets us up for a good season, and Rachel has really worked herself into being a quality cross country runner."

Rachel Thomas was the first to finish the varsity 5k in 26th place, finishing with an 18:22.24 mark. Miana Caraballo was just behind her in 30th with a time of 18:26.47. Sarah Ross claimed 34th with an 18:35.97 mark. 

Georgia Brooks was next in 58th with a 19:19.28 mark, before Mia Jones took 65th with a 19:25.56 mark and Raihana Yameogo claimed 91st with a 19:42.46 mark. 

Emma Eagan (97th, 19:46.82), Delaney Swanson (112th, 19:57.02), Vivian Mac (118th, 20:04.46) and Kylie Marion (131st, 20:13.53) rounded out the River Hawk runners.

In the JV 5k, Mary-Kate Finn got the victory with a 17:25.78 mark, before Lena Takahashi (20:07.25) and Hannah Doherty (20:12.55) finished in 27th and 28th, respectively.   

Emily Burdick (35th, 20:26.81), Lauren Long (37th, 20:39.69) and Selena Wood (55th, 21:25.00) closed out the day for the squad. 

Next up, the team will compete at the Paul Short Invitational at Lehigh onSaturday, Ocotber 5.
