River Hawks Welcome LSU and Rhode Island to Cushing Field

LOWELL, Mass. – The UMass Lowell women's soccer team (1-2-0) returns home to host the LSU Tigers of the SEC and the Rhode Island Rams of the Atlantic 10. The River Hawks will first face the Tigers on Thursday, August 29 with kickoff set for 6 p.m. on Community Night. Next, Rhode Island travels to Lowell on Sunday, September 1 to take on UMass Lowell at 3 p.m.

Looking at UMass Lowell
The River Hawks turned in a 1-1 week, picking up their first win of the season on the road at Boston University, 1-0, on Aug. 22 before falling, 1-0, at Holy Cross on Aug. 25. The River Hawks have tallied one goal so far this season belonging to freshman Gaby Eckroth (Mechanicsburg, Pa.). UMass Lowell has taken 33 shots and only allowed two goals from opponents.
 
Scouting the Tigers
LSU holds a 1-1 record, with a 3-0 shutout win at South Alabama and a 5-2 loss versus Arizona State. Junior Ida Hermannsdottir and junior Jazmin Ferguson lead the team with four points apiece, each tallying two goals. Junior Sydney Cheesman has been the playmaker with three assists. The Tigers have 36 shots on the season.

Scouting the Rams
The Rams are 1-2 overall, earning one goal against Brown. Rhode Island started the season with a matchup at Providence, losing 1-0 to then recover with a 1-0 win versus Brown. The Rams most recently lost at home to Maine, 1-0. Graduate student Sam Hagerty has the only Rhode Island goal, taking four shots to date.

Instant Impact
Eckroth recorded her first collegiate goal at Boston University, lifting the River Hawks past the Terriers, 1-0. She tallied four shots throughout three games. The freshman forward has started in two games so far, appearing in all three.
 
Between the Sticks
Graduate Student Taylor Burgess (Mendon, Mass.) was honored as America East Defensive Player of the Week (8/26) for her terrific showing in net at Boston University. Burgess earned the start and made six saves, guiding the River Hawks to a 1-0 win. This was her 12th career shutout. So far this season she has accumulated a .923 save percentage with 12 saves, starting in both games she appeared in.

Freshman Rachel Welch (Franklin, Mass.) received her first start in goal at Holy Cross, totaling four saves on the day.
