Box Score ORONO, ME. – Senior Morgan Fisher (Glassboro, N.J.) recorded a pair of singles, as the No. 5 UMass Lowell softball team (15-27) dropped its second-round matchup, 10-1, in five innings against top-ranked UAlbany (22-22) at the America East Championship early Thursday afternoon.
Graduate student Brenna Davenport (Merrimack, N.H.) registered a double and an RBI, while freshman Isabel Quintanilla (Puyallup, Wash.) went 1-for-2 with a single to add to the River Hawk offense. Senior Elizabeth Fredrick (Sunapee, N.H) and junior Trinadey Santiago (Cheshire, Conn.) both collected walks on the afternoon, as well.
Sophomore Giana LaCedra (Tyngsboro, Mass.) started in the circle, going 1.2 innings pitched with a strikeout before freshman Olivia DeCitise (Troy, N.Y.) came in for relief. She finished the contest for UMass Lowell, allowing just three hits during that stretch.
The Great Danes struck first, grabbing a pair of home runs to take a 4-0 lead in the first inning. The home side continued to extend its margin the following inning, using two RBI singles and a sacrifice fly to extend its advantage to 8-0 through two complete.
The River Hawks would battle, though, earning a scoring opportunity in the top of the fourth after Fisher singled to left field and Frederick earned a walk. Santiago then drew a walk of her own to load the bases, however, UAlbany was able to extinguish the opportunity. The Great Danes knocked their third home run and an RBI groundout to make it 10-0 in the home half of the inning.
In the top of the fifth, Quintanilla grabbed a single before sophomore Shannon Howes (Palgrave, Ontrario) came in as a pinch runner. Davenport the lined a double down the left field line to plate Howes and score UMass Lowell's first run of the game, making it 10-1. However, UAlbany would hold on to take the decision in five innings.
The River Hawks will play No. 3 Bryant in the contest next. First pitch for that contest is set for Friday, May 10 at 1:30 p.m.
