Meehan Announces Return to River Hawks for Fifth Year

4/22/2024 3:42:00 PM

LOWELL, Mass. – UMass Lowell senior defenseman Ben Meehan (Walpole, Mass.) has announced his intent to return for a fifth year with the River Hawk hockey program.

"I am thrilled to be returning to Lowell," said Meehan. "After the conclusion of this past season, I felt there was unfinished business here. I look forward to helping our team return to the winning culture we had my first three seasons at Lowell and be able to leave here next year on a positive note."

Despite suffering an injury that sidelined him for 10 games, Meehan concluded the season ranked second on the team in assists with 11, adding a goal against Providence on January 26 for a total of 12 points in 25 appearances. He has been a defensive force throughout his career, and this season was no different, as he contributed on both ends of the ice and earned the Coaches' Perseverance Award for the second consecutive year, which is given to the player that displays unrelenting determination and drive throughout the season.

Meehan also shows his hard work and commitment in the classroom, as he is working towards a degree in Business Administration.

"Ben is a Lowell Man through and through," said Head Coach Norm Bazin. "With this addition, we add another strong piece to our defensive core. Last year, Ben fell victim to an injury that was corrected through surgery. Despite the recovery time, there was no holding him out at the end of the season. There was never a doubt in any one's mind that Ben was going to return late in the season to give whatever he had for his team. We expect Ben at 100% this upcoming season and we are excited to have him back!"
