River Hawks Set For Saturday Clash With Fairfield

LOWELL, Mass. – The UMass Lowell men's lacrosse team (0-4) returns home for an afternoon clash with the Fairfield Stags (2-4) on Saturday, March 9. Opening faceoff is set for noon at Cushing Field.
 
LAST TIME OUT
Freshman James Donnelly (Ottawa, Ontario) tallied two goals and two assists, as the UMass Lowell men's lacrosse team fell to the LIU Sharks, 13-6, on Saturday afternoon. Donnelly, who now has back-to-back multi-goal games, was one of four River Hawks to find the back of the net. Freshman Jayden Consigli (Franklin, Mass.) scored the first two goals of his career, while seniors Curtis Redd (Amherst, N.H.) and Justin Longo (Kingston, N.Y.), and each added one as well. In net, graduate student Mark Pav (South Setauket, N.Y.) made 11 saves in the start, while senior Anthony Mancino (Holbrook, N.Y.) made one save in relief.
  
LEADING THE FLOCK
Twelve River Hawks find themselves in the points column after four games, with Sears and Donnelly leading the way with nine points each. Sears paces the squad with six assists, while Donnelly has tallied a team-best five goals. Right behind them, junior Riley Lawhorn (Amherst, N.H.), sophomore Jackson Dean (Deer Park, Wash.), and freshman Johnny Soi (Kerhonkson, N.Y.) all total four points. Senior Garrett Murphy (Billerica, Mass.) and freshman Colby Frigon (Providence, R.I.) round out multi-goal scorers with three each. Bird, who leads the team with 50 faceoff victories, also posts a team-leading 24 ground balls. In net, Pav has made 45 saves in four starts. 
 
AMERICA EAST HONORS
Following their impressive performances in the season opener against Holy Cross on February 10, Bird was named the America East Faceoff Specialist of the Week, while Frigon took home America East Rookie of the Week honors. Two weeks later, Donnelly was tabbed the America East Rookie of the Week after finding the back of the net twice and adding an assist against Siena.
  
SCOUTING FAIRFIELD
The Stags enter Saturday's match having won two of their last three games, most recently falling to Bryant, 16-5, on Wednesday evening. Fairfield's offense is led by attack Bryce Ford, who totals 14 goals and four assists for 18 points, while adding eight ground balls. Defender Braden Lynch leads his team with 12 caused turnovers and chips in 12 ground balls, while goaltender Will Snyder has made 55 starts with a .430 save percentage in six starts. 
  
MATCHUP HISTORY
UMass Lowell and Fairfield faced three times, with the Stags taking home victory in each match. The last time they faced was during the 2017 season, when the River Hawks fell 8-7 in the final minutes.
