LOWELL, Mass. – The 15-game road trip to begin the year comes to a close as the UMass Lowell baseball team (3-7) will travel to Omaha to take on the Creighton Bluejays (7-1) for a pair of midweek games before visiting the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles (4-7) for a weekend series.

LOOKING AT UMASS LOWELL
The River Hawks were swept for the second straight weekend, falling in all three contests at Kansas State last weekend. It will be quick turnaround for UMass Lowell, who is set for five games this week, two at Creighton and a weekend series at Oral Roberts. It is the first time in program history the River Hawks will take on the Bluejays and Golden Eagles. UMass Lowell will look to turn things around before returning home next week.
Trey Brown led the team against Kansas State, hitting .625 with five hits and one run.
Roddy Hernandez and
Alex Luccini each added four hits over the weekend while
Brandon Fish hit his first homerun of the season.
LJ Keevan led the pitchers with six strikeouts while
Cam Sime recorded his first collegiate strikeout, sitting three hitters in game two of the series.
Brian Foley struck out four in two appearances against the Wildcats.
SCOUTING THE BLUEJAYS
Creighton welcomes UMass Lowell after starting the season 7-1. The lone loss for the Bluejays came on Saturday, a 12-0 defeat to Louisiana Tech. Creighton has outscored its opponents 90-36 in eight games this season and have totaled 96 hits, 22 doubles and 15 home runs. Nolan Clifford leads the offense hitting .571 with 16 hits in 28 at bats. Six other players are hitting over .350 to begin the season. Dominic Cancellie is 2-0 on the mound with a team-high 16 strikeouts and a 1.50 ERA in three appearances.
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN EAGLES
Oral Roberts was swept by Baylor last weekend and fell to 4-7 on the season. The Golden Eagles will host Central Michigan for two games during the week before the River Hawks visit for the weekend series. Kyle Booker leads the offense hitting .359 with 14 hits, 10 RBIs and five runs. Oral Roberts has been outscored 87-69 this season and has hit six home runs through 11 games. On the mound, Ryan Carmack leads the team with 3.86 ERA in three appearances. He has a 1-0 record and is second on the team with 18 strikeouts, only behind Jakob Hall's 21 strikeouts.
AT THE PLATE
Carlos Martinez leads the offense with a .325 batting average through 10 games. The sophomore also leads the team in hits (13), doubles (7), home runs (3) and RBIs (10). His .725 slugging percentage also leads the offense.
Alex Luccini and
Roddy Hernandez are hitting .300 and .286, respectively, with 12 and 10 hits on the year. UMass Lowell will look to the get the offense rolling again this week after being held to just five runs over the last three games.
ON THE BUMP
James Capellupo continues to impress in his rookie season, leading the pitching core with a 2.63 ERA. He has a 1-1 record in four appearances and struck out a team-high 14 hitters.
LJ Keevan has 13 strikeouts in 12.1 innings while
Brendan Williams has eight in three outings. The River Hawks have seen good things out of the bullpen from young players like
Michael Simes,
Brian Foley and
Cam Sime, who will be called upon all season to help close games.
