River Hawks Prepped for Match with Binghamton

LOWELL, Mass. - The UMass Lowell men's lacrosse team (0-7, 0-2 AE) continues their road trip as they head to New York to take on the Binghamton Bearcats (3-5, 1-1 AE) on Saturday, March 30. Opening faceoff is set for 12 p.m. at the Bearcats Sports Complex.
 
LAST TIME OUT
Senior Garrett Murphy (Billerica, Mass.) tallied two points, as the UMass Lowell men's lacrosse team (0-7, 0-2 AE) fell to the Bryant Bulldogs (5-3, 1-1 AE), 17-2, on Saturday afternoon. Murphy, who finished the day with a goal and an assist, added three ground balls. Meanwhile, freshman Johnny Soi (Kerhonkson, N.Y.) tallied his sixth goal of the season, marking the second straight game he has found the back of the net. Defensively, graduate student Kyle Parry (Duxbury, Mass.) and freshman Joe Girardi (Watertown, N.Y.) each caused one turnover, while sophomore Luke Renaud (Skaneateles, N.Y.) made 13 saves in net.
 
LEADING THE FLOCK
Thirteen River Hawks find themselves in the points column after seven games, with freshman James Donnelly (Ottawa, Ontario) and junior Khairi Sears (Columbus, Ohio) leading the way with 11 points each. Following them, Murphy tallies a team-high eight goals alongside 13 ground balls. Meanwhile, behind them, Soi tallies six goals, with junior Riley Lawhorn (Amherst, N.H.), and freshman Colby Frigon (Providence, R.I.) netting five goals so far. Senior Jack Bird (Buffalo, N.Y.) has had a strong start to the season at the X, posting a .555 faceoff win percentage, good for fourth in the America East, while also leading the squad with 44 ground balls. Defensively, junior Alexander Chairs (Ellicott City, Md.) leads his squad with five caused turnovers, and in net Pav has made 61 saves in six starts.
 
AMERICA EAST HONORS
Following their impressive performances in the season opener against Holy Cross on February 10, Bird was named the America East Faceoff Specialist of the Week, while Frigon took home America East Rookie of the Week honors. Two weeks later, Donnelly was tabbed the America East Rookie of the Week after finding the back of the net twice and adding an assist against Siena.
 
SCOUTING BINGHAMTON
The Bearcats welcome the River Hawks to town following a 17-12 win over NJIT, their first conference win of the season. The Binghamton offense is led by junior attack Matthew Keegan who posts a team-best 28 points, 19 goals, and nine assists. Behind him, senior Liam Ferris ranks second with 24 points on 17 goals and seven assists. Faceoff specialist Ross Chazanow owns a .517 win percentage on 205 faceoffs while adding 52 ground balls through eight games. In net, junior Connor Winters has started every game making 104 saves for a .498 save percentage and 13.19 goals against average.
 
MATCHUP HISTORY
UMass Lowell and Binghamton have faced each other eight times, with the Bearcats owning a 6-2 record. The two teams met last season at Cushing Field and despite a four-goal performance from Lawhorn, the River Hawks fell, 21-10.
