VESTAL, N.Y. – The UMass Lowell women's basketball team (4-21, 4-9 AE) fell to the Binghamton Bearcats (12-15, 6-7 AE) on Thursday night.
Freshman
Abbey Lindsey (Staten Island, N.Y.) led the team with 19 points on 8-16 shooting and tallied a team-high three assists. Fellow freshman
Maddie Rice (Charlottesville, Va.) and graduate student
Mili Carrera (Lima, Peru) added seven points each and combined for 14 rebounds. Senior
Leilani Rodriguez (Worcester, Mass.) grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds.
Binghamton got off to a fast start, shooting 3-8 from three and 6-12 from the field to take a 15-2 lead at the first media timeout.
Maddie Rice had the lone make for the River Hawks, who shot 1-5 from the field to open the contest. Out of the break, UMass Lowell went 4-7 from the field and cut the lead to 22-10 after one.
The River Hawks struggled from the floor again and turned the ball over, giving Binghamton a chance to extend the lead. The hosts pushed the advantage to 20 points at the second media timeout.
Abbey Lindsey led the offense, scoring seven straight points out of the break to bring the River Hawks within 16 points.
Mili Carrera knocked down a three with two and a half minutes to play in the second, cutting the lead down to thirteen, and forced Binghamton into a timeout.
UMass Lowell's energy picked up after Lindsey dished a great pass to freshman
Cire Worley (Philadelphia, Penn.), who completed a three-point play as the visitors chipped away at the lead. A 13-2 run for the River Hawks made it an 11-point game at the half.
Abbey Lindsey led the way with 11 points in the first half.
Mili Carrera came up with a steal-and-score on the Bearcats' first possession to get the lead down to single digits. Binghamton pushed the lead back to 19 at the media break of the third.
Abbey Lindsey added to her team-leading tally, hitting 14 points with just over three and a half to play in the quarter. Binghamton extended the lead to 61-36 after three.
Abbey Lindsey continued to carry the River Hawks' offense, knocking down her first three of the night in the fourth quarter. The Bearcats had a comfortable lead at 69-43 at the final media timeout. The River Hawks fell to Binghamton 79-48 on Thursday night, falling to 4-9 in conference play.
UMass Lowell will head to Albany to take on the Great Danes. Tip is set for 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 24.
