River Hawks' Eyes Set On Friday Match Against Siena

LOWELL, Mass. – After coming up just short against Massachusetts last week, the UMass Lowell men's lacrosse team (0-2) will return home to take on the Siena Saints (0-2) on Friday, February 23. Opening faceoff is set for 3 p.m. at Cushing Field.
  
LAST TIME OUT
Last weekend against Massachusetts, the River Hawks' comeback effort fell short, as the game concluded with a score of 10-7. Junior Khairi Sears (Columbus, Ohio) scored two goals with an assist, tallying his two goals on five shots, including three on goal, and was one of four goal scorers for the River Hawks in the contest. Both junior Riley Lawhorn (Amherst, N.H.) and freshman Johnny Soi (Kerhonkson, N.Y.) chipped in with two goals and a ground ball. Sophomore Jackson Dean (Deer Park, Wash.) finished with a goal and an assist, while freshman James Donnelly (Ottawa, Ontario) finished with one helper. In net, graduate student Mark Pav (South Setauket, N.Y.) played all 60 minutes, finishing with a personal-best 13 saves.
  
LEADING THE FLOCK
Nine River Hawks find themselves in the points column after two games, with Sears leading the way with five goals and three assists. Dean (1g, 2a), Lawhorn (3g, 0a), and Soi (3g, 0a) are just behind him with three points apiece. Three players are also tied with two points each in Donnelly (1g, 1a), freshman Colby Frigon (Providence, R.I.) (2g, 0a), and senior Garrett Murphy (Billerica, Mass.) (2g, 0a). Freshman Owen Fitzgerald (Calverton, N.Y.) and Curtis Redd (Amherst, N.H.) have each scored one goal for the River Hawks, as well. Senior Jack Bird (Buffalo, N.Y.), who leads the team with 30 faceoff victories, also posts a team-leading 13 ground balls. In net, Pav has made 25 saves in 120 minutes of action.
  
AMERICA EAST HONORS
Following their impressive performances in the season opener against Holy Cross on February 10, Bird was named the America East Faceoff Specialist of the Week, while Frigon took home America East Rookie of the Week honors.
  
SCOUTING SIENA
The Saints enter the game coming off a 14-12 loss to Hofstra last Saturday, February 17. Leading the Siena offense was junior Pratt Reynolds, who recorded four goals and a caused turnover. Behind him, Caden Olmstead added three goals with a caused turnover and two ground balls, while five others found the back of the net once. In net, Andrew Arcuri played all 60 minutes, making 12 saves while allowing 14 goals in the loss.
  
MATCHUP HISTORY
UMass Lowell and Siena have faced off eight times, with the Saints claiming victory in six games. Last season, the two teams battled it out at Siena, with the River Hawks falling 16-12. In that game, Ben Roberts scored one goal with two assists for three points, while then-freshman Luke Renaud (Skaneateles, N.Y.) made 13 saves in net.
