LOWELL, Mass. – Coming off a 2-0 week, the UMass Lowell women's lacrosse team (3-0) will host the Stonehill Skyhawks (0-0) before kickstarting a six-game road trip with a visit to Quinnipiac (0-0) on Saturday, February 24.

LAST TIME OUT

UMass Lowell enters the week with a 3-0 record after pulling out a 14-10 victory over LIU this past Saturday. Junior Jade Catlin (Middletown, Md.) and sophomore Audra Hansen (Stamford, Ct.) each tallied three goals and an assist, to help lead their squad to the win. Tying Catlin and Hansen with four points, freshman Jillian Goldie (Owen Sound, Ontario) scored twice while adding a game-high two assists. Senior Megan Brockbank (Bayport, N.Y.) and freshman Chloe Bowers (Whitefish Bay, Wis.) continued their hot starts to the season, adding two goals plus an assist and three goals, respectively. Rounding out the goal-scorers, sophomore Grace Lydon (Rowley, Mass.) chipped in with a goal. In net, three keepers split time, with junior Kendall Whalen (Belmont, Mass.) making seven saves in the first half, freshman Alexa Kuhn (Rocky Point, N.Y.) making five saves in 29 minutes in her debut, and junior Jillian Schumacher (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) finishing the game off with one save.

LEADING THE FLOCK
Goldie paces the squad with 10 goals and four assists after the first two weeks, while Brockbank totals a team-best five assists. Catlin, who is tied for second on the team with eight goals, leads the team with six ground balls and adds nine draw controls. On defense, senior Julia Napolitano (Oakdale, N.Y.) posts a team-best seven caused turnovers, including a season-high four in the win over LIU. In net, all four goalkeepers have seen time, with Whalen pacing the River Hawks with 10 saves in 75 minutes. With the same amount of playing time, Shaddock has made two starts, holding a 2-0 record so far.

IMMEDIATE IMPACT
The freshmen have left their mark early on UMass Lowell, as Bowers and Goldie have been tabbed America East Rookie of the Week in back-to-back weeks. In the season opener, Bowers had a record-setting day, scoring five goals and totaling six points, both of which were program records for a player in their collegiate debut. The following week, Goldie exploded for seven goals and four assists, including five goals and two assists against Merrimack, to help propel her team to a 2-0 week.

SCOUTING STONEHILL

Wednesday's game will mark the season opener for the Skyhawks, coming off a 5-10 record during the 2023 campaign, their inaugural NCAA Division I season. The Skyhawks will return their second-leading scorer from last year, Molly Mae Hughes, who finished with 28 goals and 18 assists for 46 points on the year. In net, the Skyhawks split time between two keepers last season, Claire Smith and Sarah Faley, who will both return for their senior and junior years, respectively.

SCOUTING QUINNIPIAC

The Bobcats will welcome UMass Lowell to town following their season opener against Yale this Wednesday. Quinnipiac returns their third-leading scorer in Mia Delmond, who finished the 2023 campaign with 29 goals and five assists, alongside 20 ground balls and five draw controls.

A WIN WOULD
A win against Stonehill would move the River Hawks to 4-0, continuing the best start in program history, while also moving the River Hawks to 2-0 all-time against the Skyhawks. If the team followed up with a victory over Quinnipiac, it would mark only the second win over the Bobcats and would become the second-longest winning streak in program history.

MATCHUP HISTORY

The River Hawks and Skyhawks have matched up once, with UMass Lowell holding a 1-0 record, including a 21-10 victory last season. UMass Lowell and Quinnipiac, however, have faced off five times, with the Bobcats holding the series edge, 4-1. The River Hawks last beat Quinnipiac during the 2017 season, with a hard-fought 9-5 victory.
