River Hawks Get Ready to Face Butler

LOWELL, Mass. – The UMass Lowell women's basketball team (0-5) hits the road to take on Big East foe, Butler (4-1), at Hinkle Fieldhouse on Sunday, November 24 with a tipoff scheduled for 2 p.m.

Last Time Out for the River Hawks  
UMass Lowell played their second home contest of the season, falling to Rhode Island, 81-35, on Wednesday night.   

Senior Alex Gitchenko (Ashdod, Israel), competed in her second contest this season, recording career highs for points (8) and minutes (35), adding four rebounds and one steal. Sophomore Maddie Rice (Charlottesville, Va.), redshirt-senior Sydney Watkins (Indianapolis, Ind.), and sophomore Rayne Durant (New Haven, Conn.) all ended the contest with seven points each. Senior Amina Kameric (Seattle, Wash.) put away two, three-pointers in one quarter, averaging 40.0% from behind the arc and helping the River Hawks outshoot the Rams, 40.0% to 36.4%.   

Scouting the Bulldogs  
Butler most recently played Indiana State, grabbing the 80-55 win on home court.   

Caroline Strande led Butler with 15 points, six assists, two rebounds, and two steals. Strande shot 50.0% from the field versus Indiana State, with a season average of 47.2%. Four other Bulldogs reached double-digits in points, with Riley Makalusky and Sydney Jaynes each recording 13 apiece.  

The Bulldogs were able to outshoot their opponent from the field with a 46.3% average to their 32.7%.  

Butler Matchup History 
The River Hawks and the Bulldogs have met once, with Bulter claiming the 89-36 victory at home on November 11, 2018.   

Leading UMass Lowell  
Durant paces the River Hawk offense with 11.8 points per game. Rice follows with an average of 7.6 per game and leads the team with 7.0 rebounds per game. Watkins has 13 total assists and steals to guide the River Hawks, as well as three blocks so far this season.
