HANOVER, N.H. – Sophomore
Rayne Durant (New Haven, Conn.) produced 13 points and eight rebounds, as UMass Lowell (0-4) fell, 57-41, to Dartmouth (2-1) at Leede Arena on Saturday afternoon.
"I'm proud of this group for holding Dartmouth to 57 points, but we have to have better focus when it comes to knocking down open shots," said Head Coach
Denise King.
UMass Lowell outshot its host from three point range (16.7% to 15.0%) and from the foul line (45.5% to 44.4%) in the contest.
This marks Durant's fourth outing in a row leading the River Hawks offensively. Durant went 6-for-15 from the field, adding an assist, and continues to be perfect from the foul line. Sophomore
Maddie Rice (Charlottesville, Va.) recorded her second straight game with 10 rebounds, which is her career high. Rice contributed with eight points and two steals, as well. Sophomore
Abbey Lindsey (Staten Island, N.Y.) also totaled eight points with three defensive boards.
Dartmouth started the game going on an 8-0 run. UMass Lowell's first points came from redshirt senior
Sydney Watkins (Indianapolis, Ind.) with back-back-back layups, cutting the difference in half at 8-4 with 6:38 to go in the first. A jumper from Durant at 5:41 and another Watkins layup at 5:16 would tie the score at 8-8 and make for an 8-0 comeback run for the River Hawks.
Dartmouth and UMass Lowell went shot for shot before the Big Green scored six in a row. However, Rice disrupted their shooting streak with a jumper with 41 seconds left. She then received the ball back on the final possession of the quarter to sink a three-point buzzer beater, making it a one-point game, 16-15, going into the second quarter.
Durant got the second started with a three-point play at 9:07, grabbing UMass Lowell's first lead of the day, 18-15. Dartmouth answered with a five point run, but Durant quickly responded with a layup at 7:03, cutting the lead to one once again, 21-20.
Lindsey guided the River Hawks with the next four points, although the home team rallied 11 of the final 13 points of the period to pull away 32-24 at the break.
The River Hawks outshot The Big Green in the third quarter, 15-8. UMass Lowell started with a 5-0 spurt thanks to a three pointer from senior
Amina Kameric (Seattle, Wash.) and a bucket from Lindsey.
The quarter would go back and forth for each team, ending with a 4-0 stretch from the River Hawks, as senior
Alex Gitchenko (Ashdod, Israel) scored her first points and Durant added a clean layup, making it just a two-point game, 40-38, heading into the fourth.
A scoreless two minutes in the final quarter would lead to a 10-0 run for The Big Green. Dartmouth would only allow the River Hawks to three points this quarter, as the home side put up 17 points to secure the 57-41 win.
The River Hawks will return home to face Rhode Island at the Costello Athletic Center on November 20, tipping off at 6 p.m.
