MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Sophomore Rayne Durant (New Haven, Conn.) and sophomore Abbey Lindsey (Staten Island, N.Y.) totaled 10 points apiece, as UMass Lowell (0-3) fell, 82-37, to Minnesota (3-0) at Williams Arena on Tuesday evening.
"We cannot dwell on tonight's outcome, but we must learn from it to be better for the next," said Head Coach Denise King.
Durant also contributed three rebounds and two assists, with Lindsey adding two rebounds and one steal. Sophomore Maddie Rice (Charlottesville, Va.) grabbed 10 boards, a career high. The River Hawks outshot their hosts from the foul line, 80.0% to 76.2%.
UMass Lowell would win the tipoff, but the Gophers quickly built an 11-0 buffer.
Redshirt Senior Sydney Watkins (Indianapolis, Ind.) grabbed the River Hawks' first points of the night banking in a layup at 4:55 in the first quarter.
The Gophers recorded a pair of buckets to start the second quarter before Lindsey drained a three at 7:24, with the assist was credited to Durant to make it 24-5 Minnesota.
Durant followed with four points, first with a set of free throws at 6:49 and a jumper from the baseline thanks to an assist from senior Amina Kameric (Seattle, Wash.) at 4:38.
Freshman Emina Kameric (Seattle, Wash.) earned her first collegiate points at 3:20, hitting a three pointer, with an assist credited to Durant. However, the Gophers would go on a 5-0 run to finish up the half, leading 41-14 heading into the break.
Lindsey recorded the first point of the third quarter for the River Hawks with a free throw at 8:11, but Minnesota followed with four points.
UMass Lowell went on a 6-0 stretch, all points produced by Lindsey. Minnesota answered with four points followed by a Durant turnaround jumper at 1:33.
Minnesota started the fourth quarter hot, going on a 8-0 run, but it was ended by senior Tasha Lima (Roslindale, Mass.) as she recorded a jumper at 5:53 to cut the difference to 66-27.
After six consecutive Gopher points, UMass Lowell and Minnesota would go shot for shot for the remaining minutes of the contest. Durant sunk back-to-back buckets, followed by threes from Lima and A. Kameric to round out the contest.
The River Hawks will travel back to the Northeast to compete against Dartmouth at Leede Arena on Saturday, November 16th, with a 1:00 p.m. tipoff.
