River Hawks Head to the Mid-West to Take on Minnesota

LOWELL, Mass. – The UMass Lowell women's basketball team (0-2) will travel to face Big Ten foe, Minnesota (2-0), on Tuesday, November 12, with a tipoff at 8 p.m. at Williams Arena.

Last Time Out for the River Hawks
UMass Lowell most recently fell to Holy Cross, 61-49, on Saturday at the Costello Athletic Center. The River Hawks shot 39.6% from the field, outshooting the Crusaders who averaged 31.6%. Sophomore Rayne Durant (New Haven, Conn.) led the team for the second time this week, recording 13 points, five boards, and one steal. She went 3-3 at the line and shot 71.4% from the field. Sophomore Maddie Rice (Charlottesville, Va.) had another great showing with 12 points, three rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Freshman Carla Subirats (Barcelona, Spain) earned a career high in points, totaling eight. She added four rebounds and one assist. Sophomore Abbey Lindsey (Staten Island, N.Y.) earned seven points, four rebounds, three assists, and one steal. Redshirt senior Sydney Watkins (Indianapolis, Ind.) tied her career high in steals with six, while also scoring seven points, and collecting five rebounds and four assists.

Scouting the Gophers
Minnesota has collected two wins against Northeast teams so far in Central Connecticut State and Vermont.

The Gophers opened their season against CCSU with an 89-48 win on Nov. 4. Annika Stewart and Mara Braun scored the bulk of the points for Minnesota, totaling 18 and 17, respectively. Stewart also added four rebounds, one steal, and one block. Braun also contributed with five assists, two steals, and one rebound. Stewart and Braun each sunk nine points from three-point territory. Taylor Woodson had a noteworthy outing, with 10 points, five rebounds, and two steals. As a whole, the Gophers shot 47.2% from the field and 84.62% from the line.

Minnesota then faced Vermont, grabbing another home win, 74-52, on Nov. 8. Braun would have another substantial showing, posting 21 points, eight steals, four assists, and one rebound. Amaya Battle also put up 21 points, adding five assists, and four rebounds. Stewart would score 11 points and earn two rebounds, and one assist. The Gophers had a strong night from three-point territory, shooting 61.5%.

Minnesota Matchup History
This will be the first contest between the River Hawks and the Gophers.

Leading UMass Lowell
Durant leads the River Hawk scoring with 29 points so far this season, averaging 14.9 per game. Rice is right behind her with 21 points to average 10.5 per game. Durant and Rice have also recorded the most rebounds with 13 and 12, respectively. Lindsey leads in the assist category with seven and Watkins ranks first on the team with nine steals.
