LOWELL, Mass. – After going unbeaten between the pipes in October, graduate student
Henry Welsch (Lakeville, Minn.) of the UMass Lowell ice hockey team (4-1-0, 1-0-0 Hockey East) has been named the Hockey East Stop It Goaltending Goaltender of the Month, announced by the conference Thursday morning.
Welsch was outstanding in net for the River Hawks, amassing a 4-0-0 record in four appearances, with a 1.75 GAA and .918 save percentage. He is the only goaltender in Hockey East to not record a loss or tie, leading the conference in winning percentage so far this season and ranks tied for second in GAA and fifth in save percentage. He has also made at least 20 saves in three out of his four games and allowed just one goal in two separate games, first against Minnesota Duluth (Oct. 12) and most recently against Colgate (Oct. 19).
This marks the first Goaltender of the Month honor of Welsch's career as he now prepares for the River Hawks' next test when the squad travels to Holy Cross on Friday, November 1 for a 7:00 p.m. puck drop at Hart Center Rink in Worcester, Mass.
